New Transformers Movie Involves Armed Forces Like No Other
Tuesday, December 30, 2008
The U.S. military is fighting a new enemy.
Transformers!
Actual military troops, many just back from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, are fighting alongside co-stars Shia LaBoeuf and Megan Fox in the sequel to last summer's "Transformers" blockbuster.
"If we were to actually fight Transformers, this is how we would do it," Lt. Col. Francisco "Paco" Hamm, the Air Force liaison to the film, jokes to USA Today .
The Department of Defense has allowed director Michael Bay and his crew access to the Army's New Mexico missile range, the Air Force's fighter planes, and the Navy's aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis.

And while the DOD has been involved in films from "Top Gun" to "Iron Man," the "Transformers" sequel is different.
"As far as I know, this is the biggest joint military operation movie ever made, in terms of Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines," Army liaison Lt. Col. Gregory Bishop tells the paper.
"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," is slated to hit theaters in 2009.
