Stargate: Atlantis - Fansite reports DVDs coming late this year
Posted by David Lambert
3/02/2005

The Stargate fansite "GateWorld" posted a story yesterday stating that Stargate: Atlantis is coming to DVD this November in a complete first season box set. In the tradition of the Stargate SG-1 DVD releases, they said that they expect MGM to include "the usual episode commentaries, featurettes, and more."

Before that, though, the site reports that "The 90-minute spin-off pilot episode "Rising" will be released on DVD on June 21, 2005. ". MGM didn't mention that title among their initial June slate of DVD releases, however...but they've been known to update those lists after they are first circulated. Stay tuned, and we'll bring you more info just as soon as we have it.

Stargate: Atlantis - Pilot Episode DVD Announced: Cover Art & Details!
Posted by David Lambert
3/28/2005

When SG-1 discovers what it believes to be the remnants of the Lost City of the Ancients - the originators of the Stargates - Stargate Command launches an investigation. A new team of explorers, headed by civilian Dr. Elizabeth Weir, travels to the distant Pegasus Galaxy, where it discovers an advanced but deserted city on the ocean floor, a group of nomadic humans and a deadly enemy that feeds on humans as an energy source!

Several weeks ago we relayed a report that Stargate: Atlantis - Rising, the 90-minute pilot of the spin-off series, would reach DVD by itself in June, ahead of a November release of The Complete 1st Season.

MGM has now announced the first part of that equation, verifying a slightly-earlier-than- expected June 7th release of "Rising". Clocking in at a whopping $25.98 SRP for what appears to be a single-disc release, actual running time is 88 minutes and there are a few extras to be found:

Audio Commentary by Director Martin Wood and Actor Joe Flanigan
"Preview to Atlantis" Featurette
Sneak Peek: "Stargate Atlantis" Season 2
Stargate Alliance Videogame Trailer
Stargate Alliance Videogame Art

Specs put this in 16x9 Widescreen (1.78:1) video format, with English: 5.1 Surround and Closed Captioning for the Hearing Impaired. Look for the regular cast of Stargate: Atlantis to be accompanied by SG-1 cast such as Richard Dean Anderson as "Jack O'Neill" and Michael Shanks as "Daniel Jackson". Also look for Robert Patrick from the later seasons of The X-Files.
