****The Genesis Effect ****
Date: 02/10/2003
From: Raymar3d
"What would happen if--? Suppose this was used where life already existed?"
"It would destroy such life in favor of it's new matrix."
"It's new matrix?? My God man, you're talking about it's new matrix, I'm talking about universal Armaggeddon!"
"I was not attempting to discuss it's moral implications, Doctor."
"You green-blooded, inhuman--!"
"The Genesis experiment is a failure."
"The greatest destructive force in the galaxy, a failure? The Federation, in creating the ultimate weapon, has become a gang of intergalactic pirates!"
"I'll tell you what my problem is: You spent all this time standing on the shoulders of geniuses, but you didn't gain the knowledge yourselves, you didn't have the discipline to earn it yourselves. You were so busy realizing what you could do, you didn't stop to ask yourselves if you SHOULD do it!"
"Mr. Hammond, I'm afraid I can't endorse your park."
"The ability to destroy a [script] is insignificant next to the power of [fandom]"
Hope you enjoyed the quotes. Maybe get a little understanding of how we feel from them?

I'm thinking The search for Spock (which I last saw in the Theatre so Trekkers please give me some grace on that) and Jurassic Park? Am I close?

Now there's an idea...
Ken,
As it happens I was just watching WOK yesterday - all I had that was good on vhs (DVD player is in the shop) and I thought its a good example of a property where a continuation did work....
The only problem as I see it is still is, has there been *too* long between os and the revival?
But great quotes - they really brought a smile to my face on a day when smiles were needed. Thanks again,
Fingers

"In every revolution, there's one man with a vision" Love that quote from Star Trek :TOS Mirror mirror episode Raymar3d!
Great quotes, lets not forget one that the TPTB at Universal should think about when they revive BG.
"Do or do not, there is no try?"
and for those who love Dr McCoy
"I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer damn it"

Have you seen our trailer?
I'll tell you what. While they live and breathe, there's life in the original!
Richard and Dirk are about Shatner's age when he did Star Trek: The Motion Picture. IMHO, they're now at their prime for a return. Yes, the older cast members including Lorne Greene and John Colicos have passed on, but we still have Baltar's final appearance on film, and it's a perfect setup to pass the baton, so to speak.
There will NEVER be a better time than NOW!

Yeps - I saw it last year in Germany! Was hoping to see it again and the GWOM trailer in southport last october but Richard got cancelled .
I enjoyed it very much - got a very good reception
I'm not talking about the ages of the actors - I agree both Hatch and Benedict are in *excellent* form for their years hehehehe (to be honest when I met Richard in Germany - I was completely bowled over by him - that's from a committed Starbuckian!) .
What I am talking about is the distance between the series and the continuation... There wasn't that much distance between the STOS and TMP - Trek was an established icon in contemporary culture so in a sense it was easy to reintroduce that series - most people had an semi-easy recallable image of what ST 'was' .
I think my main concern with a continuation is that the series would fall between two stools in that it would have to lean to new audiences, reminding the general public (or even sci-fi fans in general) about the Original series and please the core group of Galactica fans with solid plot continuation...
I know the remake (from what I've seen of the script) is not going to be anything close to the original series or the characters we know and love but I can see where TPTB got their idea from (all linked into making a fast buck). (But also i think if we stuck the old characters straight into 25 years later type of plot with little or no development that would be wrong too...).

Michela,
You are precisely correct. And development is better than destruction, the way Mr. Moore has DESTROYED the characters. Last night, I watched the original pilot again, and I was again struck by the insulting way the characters have been butchered for the remake. I will not support the remake in any form if it's the same characters.
I do not understand why they can't just make them all different characters and leave it at that. The rest of us can call it a prequel if we want to, no skin off their backs. But, NO, they have to mark the territory like a bunch of wild dogs, come in to 'ahem' p--- all over it.
That is what I object to. Not to mention their obvious tactics to shut us all up if we object.
Battlestar Galactica stands. Bastardized Galactica is worse than Galactica 1980 by a longshot.
