Favorite films?

When I was a kid, horror was my thing. I remember being in the first grade and just loving "Nightmare on Elm Street." Sure, watching it now, the film series is pretty cheesey, but it still spooks me in places because I remember how it made me feel when I was little.

Now, I'm into all kinds of movies from comedies to science fiction. However, my favorites are the types that make you really feel.

Example? "Requiem for a Dream." I felt a lot of hurt when I watched that movie, and not because I chose a bad time in my life to watch it, hah. Watching depressing movies when I'm depressed allows me to get out my emotions and I end up feeling a little better after.

Another example would be "Dancer in the Dark," staring Bjork (and I don't even like Bjork) who plays a woman who is going blind and trying to make enough money so her son will not have the same fate. Fantastic, fantastic movie.

My favorite movies of all-time are tough to list. The above would be included, along with "Donnie Darko," but I'm a big fan of all three (yes, all three) "Godfather" movies. I don't think I could name my favorite movie of all time, or even what would be in my top 10.

I'm a movie freak.

The movies I like seem to have over aired waaay to the point of naauseum.

But I like in no particular order

Shawshank Redemption
Its a Wonderful Life
Field of Dreams
Roman Holiday

And I also liked alot Band of Brothers and From the Earth to the Moon

And I just watched Pretty Woman and loved it all over again. For some reason I really like Hector Elonzo's Hotel manager.

Thomas, you are thinking of Time after Time starring Malcolm MacDowell, David Warner and Mary Steenburgen. THAT was a terrific movie! When it hit DVD I was thrilled!

I am also into movies. For me to pick a few favorites is tough, but here it goes. I like all you have listed so I'll just add a few.

Meet Joe Black- Death is difficult to deal with, this movie is good and has an outstanding cast.

Brave Heart- Mel is a great actor.

Frequency - This one I can relate to on a personal level.

The Goonies- Enjoyed this when I was younger and still do!

Return of the Jedi ( think I saw this one a dozen times at the movies !)

Goonies! Loved that movie when I was a kid!

Thought it was kind of dorky at the same time, and think so even more so now, but I still liked it.

In addition to films I liked when I was a kid: Gremlins, Short Circuit.

People seem to love or hate "Contact," but I enjoyed that movie when it came out, what, five years ago? Jodi Foster rules.

Yeah, Goonies is dorky! It just keeps me laughing now matter how many times I see it.

When I was a kid (teen ager) I loved "Back to the future" "Top Gun", "Dirty Dancing", and "St Elmo's Fire".

Short circuit! I almost forgot about that one, I loved that movie. It was too cute!

I see you are an Errol Flynn fan Shatter, too cool! He was truly the best.
Magnificent Seven is also one of my favs, due to the fact my Dad brought me to it when I was 4 and it has always stuck in my memory (we stood outside and stared at the poster before and after and I still remember that). Cat Ballou was great too (I love Nat King Cole).

The Quiet man, I really liked that one too. That is the one with John Wayne, right? It was good to see him play in a movie set somewhere other than in the old west or a war film.

Same here! I thought it was just a movie about sweaty guys hitting eachother, but I was bored one night and it was on HBO for the first time, so I watched. And I was amazed. GREAT movie.

Even better book. I suggest to read other Chuck Palahniuk novels as well--he's a god.

I had decided against it based on the first previews I saw, showing as you said sweaty guys hitting each other, but after seeing different previews later on I had a feeling there could be more to it than mindless violence (my first impression). When I rented the video I was so awestruck by the first viewing that I immediately watched it a second time, and then a third time the next day. What is fun about the second and third viewings, after the shocking plot twist at the end, is seeing all the clues and suggestions placed throughout the film which made sense only after knowing what the story was really about.

I do hope to read the novel the film was based on, as I have heard similar praises about the author.

BST and 14th both listed Young Frankenstein. I can't believe I forgot that one! It's my favorite Brooks film of all time (Blazing Saddles is a close second). I especially enjoyed Marty Feldman and Madeline Kahn.

Heck, with all the films I've seen in my life (and you in yours I'm sure), it is hard to recall while composing a post all of the films I've enjoyed the most. I'm sure I've fogotten some of my faves from early in my life.

Fort APache (as a Custer-phile I find this film fantastic. Its the first real attempt to show Custer in less than flattering light)

One of my favorite films is called "The Renegades" or something. Its a 70s Sci Fi about tv ruling the world, and you "watch" a game show War Game. (reminicient of Viet nam) Saw it in college, but have no other infomation on it
