Returning home safely
My cousin got word today from her fiancee' he's on his way home from Iraq with fellow 82nd Airborne guys. They had a rough time leaving, some in his platoon were wounded either enroute to the plane or as the plane left, but they got out and most are headed home tonight.
God is good and he watches over our men & women in harm's way.

And may God bless and keep those who are still in harm's way.

I was fortunate that my fiancee didn't get activated and sent over there. IO would be worried sick if he had been.

I am glad when any of our fine servicemembers makes it home. Here's to the day when they all return!
My brother-in-law and sister are doing well and the first baby on my side of the family in over 16 years is due in September.

Well I live in fantasy land I want everyone to be home with their loved ones because if they were they would not be out there killing each other! I hate killing! I've had to kill too many animals in my life, Over the years when I worked as a veterinary technitian I was the one to give the needle that put someones beloved pet to sleep and I carry the weight and responsibility for their souls in my heart always...I can't imagine killing a human being!

You know, being in the military, myself and being stationed with a stateside unit, I can't help but think about wanting to be there with them. Sometimes I feel I'm not doing my part, and that I could do a lot of good deployed. My medical side hates to see them hurt, and I'm not there to treat their wounds. My military side hates not being able to cover their backs. There's not a day that goes by I don't think of my brothers in harms way, and I'm left behind. I don't care about the political side of things. I just want to take care of my fellow warfighters. Isn't that why I became a Hospital Corpsman? The only thing I can do is wait for them to come home and treat whatever they have and hope they can heal properly. They are the reason I stay in the Navy. I love them all.

I salute the job they do and wish them all well but look to the day that they can hug a loved one. Welcome aboard doc, my fiance is a navy reservist and he is anxiously awaiting the day people like him return as well.

Hi (((doc)))
You are doing your part! one of the hardest jobs is making people whole again. There are far more lasting wounds that soldiers get that being patched up will not fix. That is an area where you can provide the most care while you treat their physical wounds and possibly make a huge difference in their lives. Had you been over there you would never have had the time to care for that aspect of their needs. So take advantage of the time you have to care for their emotional needs as well and you will be providing a service that no one will have been able to do until you came into their lives.

yup just ask any veteran who has talked about what they saw over there and you get a sense of the stress they endured and how relieved some are that you care to listen

I was stationed with a few people in Panama who had been involved in the first Gulf War. Most of them were grateful to discuss it just to be able to take the weight off their shoulders for a bit. But, one of them was the sort of person who internalized everything and he was irrevocably changed. He came down with what was later recognized as Gulf War Syndrome and it was just so sad to see such a great guy deteriorate. Last I heard, he was given a dishonorable charge for being a racist and headed back to Maine. I always wonder where he ended up & how he is doing.

Thanks, Rowan, for your advise. If you ever become a Navy Nurse, come see me. You would be a good asset to the service.
