My Imperial Star Destroyer
Yet another model I've built in Blender, and assembled in iClone.
I think, for my purposes, I'm pretty much finished with the Imperial Star Destroyer.. so, here are some shots:
As you can see here, I've added some prominent turbolasers. This will allow for a little more consistency when I'm showing where most of the turbolaser fire is coming from when I add those effects.
Here, you can see the heavy ion cannons beside the command deck, and the quad laser cannons that run along the edges of the ship.
The garbage disposal hatch, which will animate open and shut:
A better shot of the command deck, with three turbolasers that line the forward edge
And another nice, imposing belly shot of the great ISD

Put that up against a BaseShip, and it should get fun.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
This will actually help me in making the video I'd planned on making a few years ago, Senmut. ISD vs Galactica.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
Based on the scale work I did the Galactica is longer then the ISD
I remember the video that was going around the web a few years ago with all the scifi shows ships involved, star trek star wars BSG Babylon5 etc all battling it out and a ISD perusing the Galactica.
the scale of the G was so small it was or seem to be just bigger then a Blockage Runner,..
Imperial Star-destroyer: length - 5249ft or 1600 m
Battlestar Galactica : length - 6080ft or 1853 m
Which surprised me when I saw them side by side.
Others may not agree, but it the scale that works best for the Galactica in-relation to the scale of the Vipers + launch tube´s and the G shuttle craft at 110ft .....

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
I agree, Ger.
In my Dark Exodus fanfic, I wrote that the Galactica was two kilometrons long (so, 2km in Earth speak), which would make it about 400 meters longer than the ISD....so that's what I strove for when I scaled the two together.

+1
Worked it out many times and in several different ways. Galactica is around 6080feet long.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
Nice! Alas, my ISD is nowhere near as detailed as Fractal Sponge's. (That guy certainly knows what he's doing when it comes to Imperial warships ). Also, my ISD is not quite that slim.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
I think his rig is 3dsmax or it could be Lightwave...... I am not sure which... but he has built some stunning original SW designs with even more detail..
My version of the USS Enterprise is perhaps the 5th or 6th try over the 6 years I have been using Lightwave....
You will make it again possibly.....I know I will work again on the Enterprise.
lol
When I build a model now I create a box shape to the estimated scale of the design.. (if your program can show backdrop / Blueprint images) in the case of the ISD is as mentioned 1600 m long or 5249ft.
If your program can show image as a guide. I normally load in the images without (first cropping them to the scale of the ship only, getting as close to the sides / top / bottom of the hull as possible.
Then I create a box over the drawing fitting to the sides / top/ etc and when the image appears to be within the box,
I then scale the box to the length of the ISD (I normally use ft in my modeling) 5249ft in this case, you then have the width and height for the model.
you can have a look at this in my Enterprise Tutorial where I go through this process....
I don´t know anything about the prog you use at all...

Oh yeah, I used a blueprint as a backdrop to build against when I made my K't'inga battlecruiser. Remember?

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
Ha ha.
Yeah, I definitely needed the back drop for that ship because certain shapes were really hard to nail...and that backdrop came in very, very handy for it.

I can Do That !!! lol
hey martok, am unsure how blender works, but I modeled those guitar ships rather easily, considering I got nil modeling experience. But that is pretty darn good in my book.
I bought a modeling training series ( 3 Vols- 80 hours ?? or so) C4d
Also saw a tut ( C4d) for UV mapping and guy modeled a damn nice pig in like 3 minutes......using 1 Cube.
Definitely ahead of me in modeling
KIU

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
Howdy, QH, thanks for the kind words.
Once I got past the wonderful tutorial for Blender by Karan Shah, I was able to start putting models together much quicker than even I'd imagined.
I'm getting ready to post video of my Star Destroyer and my Corellian Corvette in action...in a sort of recreation of the opening battle from Star Wars.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
Alrighty, folks, the animation is up.
I decided to recreate the opening battle (in my own way) from Star Wars. It's not shot for shot perfect, but I think it turned out rather nicely.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
That was pretty good.
Sound got a nip loud as the Imperator passes....
KIU
Also martok, question , was going to PM you.
I thought I saw once that in iClone you can use an image or picture
to apply to a character, is that true?
Might get me motivated to try and figure it out ?
seems so alien to me. I can then add Sex Symbol Goddesses faces
to human meshes and put them on a Hangar deck for a Miss Colonial Universe
contest lol....

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
Thanks, QH.
Yeah, I wanted to add a bit of imposing factor to the Star Destroyer, so I did make the engines and the turbolasers a bit loud.
And yes, in iClone, you can take a facial image and apply it to your avatars. I do it all the time. For my Galactica female characters, I've used the likenesses of:
Ellen Page for Athena
Eliza Dushku for Sheba
Natalie Portman for a new character named Shaen.
The process is none too difficult. As long as you can find a straight on head shot (with neutral expression, mouth closed) of someone, it works out really well. You can also get a slightly off angle head shot, and still align it to make it look fairly reasonable.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
This is even better:
Ok, folks, here it is, my higher quality REDUX (Special Edition? Ha ha ha) of my previous effort to recreate the opening fight from Star Wars Episode IV.
I think this looks TONS better than my previous effort.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
Oh, and here are my TIE Fighter and TIE Interceptor. They aren't really meant for super close shots. They're meant for quick action passes. Still, I gave 'em just enough texture to provide a little realism...

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
It is indeed a thought of continuing a video project I was going to begin a few years ago....and it was going to be miniatures...but now that I've been dabbling in CG modeling, I can probably make the video more of a reality.

Re: My Imperial Star Destroyer
Well, I have begun in earnest on my BattleSTAR Galactica WARS project. The opening shot is already completed and looks great. I'm doing it in "toon" mode, since I bought iClone 5 PRO.
Here's the stills I presented before of the Galactica, Star Destroyer, and Corellian Corvette done in toon mode.
I will not post any teasers of the project itself. I want a finished product to release. Already been working on the script, and sets. I still need to create stormtroopers.
