colonial pistol and rifle
I have taken a short break from my other modeling projects and have decided to model a few BSG small arms. I'm going to do the colonial pistol, colonial rifle, and Cylon rifle.
So far the colonial pistol is at about 1000 verticies with a final goal of about 10k in the mesh plus a normal map generated from a hi-res model with an estimated 400k-800k polycount.
I downloaded all the reference images I could find and noticed a LOT of variations that I didnt expect.
I also spent the better part of last night looking for images of the colonial laser rifle as seen in "Baltars Esacpe". A few years ago there were some images from somebodys project to get the lights working on one. Sadly I think that site is down. If anybody has Colonial rifle images I'd be very gratefull.
Anyhow here are some REALLY early WIP images. No details modeled on the pistol yet, just starting to block out the main body. pistol_wip_001.jpg

Re: colonial pistol and rifle
The pistol is coming along okay, I'm about 1/3 of the way finished with the modeling. I'm building the LOD0 mesh (level of detail model for close up) and the normalmap source model on top of each orther at the same time. I should start doing all my models that way.
I tried to upload a couple os WIP pics several times, but it looks like that feature is not yet working. Perhaps tomorrow things will be better.

Re: colonial pistol and rifle
Thanks, I'll be uploading the pistol hopefully in a few weeks when its done. I just got a fuel injection retrofit and programming project added to my urgent to do list yesterday , so the pistol (as well as the shuttle, launching bay, and centurion) will be delayed a little longer.
I need a time machine.

Re: colonial pistol and rifle
Agreed looks like a real Colonial Wep.
Be interesting to see if I could make an emitter effect very similar to what was in original with my limited experience.I think I could do it using trial and error, A lot of the parameters, attributes, pyro, materials and such I have not tinkered with yet. Just child it to the Model man, a warrior you would be :-)
But I think I can I think I can :-)
Nice Piece.

Re: colonial pistol and rifle
The pistol is still unfinished, I just have way too many projects, not all on a computer.
I have been doing a bit of modeling on the launching and landing bays and yesterday did some work on the bridge too.
I'll try to get some stuff done enough for a beta release.
