Matt Jeffries dead at 82
Just read the notice on the Star Trek website and thought I'd pass along the sad news. Matt Jeffries, designer of the Starship Enterprise, passed away today at the age of 82.

This is really depressing to hear. I really thought he was a great designer. I knew he was living out towards Reno Nevada and I had dreams of one day meeting him.
But his art at least will always live on.

I dont know what to say. His designs inspired me so much as a child it was part of what made me want to become a film maker/animator.

Sad to hear that. Is it in his honor that we see the famous Jeffries tubes with crewmen clambering through them? Wow...

So he designed the original, "E." (Yeah, I definitley favor the Galactica.) But the original series Enterprise is still the best from that series.

"All I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by."
In the words of McCoy, "He's really not dead, as long as we remember him."
"It is a far far better resting place I go to, than I have ever known."
I have probably drawn the Enterprise more times than any other single thing ever. I am very sad to hear this news today.

If you'll notice, his original design dictated the design all of the Star Fleet vessels that followed, up to and including the Enterprise E. All have the basic saucer/nacell configuration, with the secondary (engineering) hull on the larger ships.
And if Star Trek continues, his design will live on. Not a bad legacy.
