Now that NBC owns the SciFi Channel, I would like to express the following point of view-
Quote:
The current management of the Scifi Channel is borderline incompetent and has purposely chosen a path that aggravates and alienates their viewership base.

This is a POPULAR view.
The Scifi Channel has remarkable marketing and advertisements. Some a little bit too weird, but it is original.
HOWEVER their programming choices has damaged the reputation and quality of the brandname "Scifi Channel." For example: The Dream Team, Crossing over with John Edwards, Scare Tactics, Tremors the series. These shows created by the SciFi Programming's division quite frankly SUCK. Horrible, horrible shows. That's just this year. The previous programming created by Bonnie Hammer's management (though popular to a small niche) were largely hated by scifi fans- Invisible Man, Lexx, First Wave, Good vs Evil...and a ton of lousy, forgetable made for scifi movies. All extremely bad. All hated by scifi fans.
AND they killed Farscape. Until they Stargate it was the only really popular show they had. The fans loved it and Bonnie Hammer's management brutally killed it. AND they ended the show in the worst, most aggravating manner possible with a deus ex machina finale that killed off the main characters senselessly, and pissed off EVEN non-fans!
And then there is the new Battlestar Galactica. The revival which is pissing off fans from Hollywood to Russia! Massive amounts of hate. It was obvious science fiction fans HATED the new script with a passion. But the scifi management, instead of evolving the script so it would entertain fans, decided to ignore its audience and publically labeled any fan who would oppose their view as a purist fanatic! They chose to stick a middle finger at their fanbase!
In the last two years, there has only been only TWO real successes on the scifi channel: Taken and Stargate. These were only possible because they had ZERO creative input or control by scifi channel's management. Taken was entirely Stephen Speilberg. Stargate, although advertised as a "scifi channel original series" is infact the same finished product that was created by Showtime and ran for 6 years prior to it debut on SciFi Channel. Scifi just paid the bill. So the only two hits on SciFi were a result of Scifi being locked out of the creative process.
Now fans on a whole HATE SciFi Channel. And there is ALOT of hate. None of which needed to happen. But the management was arrogant and chose a path that ostracized mainstream, traditional scifi fans. Bonnie Hammer believes traditional scifi fans are NOT their target audience....This, for a channel called SCIFI???? That's is by itself unbelievably myopic decisionmaking.
The scifi channel management is completely out of touch with their audience. And they repeatedly take needless antagonistic measures against their own audience. They have insulted them publically calling them obsolete, purists, fanatical and INCONSEQUENTIAL.
The current management at SciFi Channel may be great at marketing a product, but they show no training in the writing and creation of an entertaining show. Creating an hour long show is an entirely different talent than creating a catchy fifteen second commercials. And promoting an ADVERTISING genius to where she is CREATING tv programming was a horrible mistake.
Its time to throw out what isn't working and plug in something that DOES work.
