I saw Applessed at the store for just $16 at Fry's Electronics. But I bought the delux box for $24.
Its an excellent film! really good. I also just bought Voices of a Distant Star.
Lets see... I loved Noir. Appleseed. Macross in all its forms. I like the new Basilisk, and Zipang. Loved Read Or Die. Evangelion (though not the ending)
Oh there too many to count!

Tom,
I know that you said that you loved it from the start and were thrilled with it. I thought of you the moment Appleseed was mentioned. I thought that I would at least rent it first before purchasing - that's what I did with Last Exile and RahXephon.
It's nice to see your face in these parts, mister!
Best,
Bryan

My favorite anime is Ghost In The Shell. I don't like the Dragonball Z style anime. Nothing wrong with it, I just don't like it.

I liked GITS:SAC also. I have a background in law and law enforcement, and many of the characters in the show felt like "real" police and detectives to me.
I like other anime too.

Yea I really like GITS:SAC, and am looking forward to the second season, it is the same people doing it, and they say it looks even better so...
Yea I enjoyed Appleseed, and am also looking forward to the sequel, their is so much more story from the Manga that they can delve into, and I want to see more Landmates.
I just watched an amazing SCI-FI anime series called Planets about Astronauts in space who clean up space trash. I loved it. Actually I have a review of it at my blog. As well as a quick review of the Manga it is based on. Which I quickly read after finishing the series.
Of course I will always love Macross, but another amazing, and much longer series is LEGENDS OF THE GALACTIC HEROES. It has never been released in the US, and it is so long it is doubtful it will, but you can see it on Chinese DVD's. It is an epic science fiction story about a galactic civil war, which is one of my favorite science fiction stories of all time. Really worth checking out if you can find it.
Been watching Samurai Champloo on cartoon network. That show rocks!

Interesting that almost everyone so far has mentioned new anime.
There's also the "old school" anime like Bubblegum Crisis which is well worth watching (the older series, not the BGC 2040--although that series is enjoyable as well). I'll also echo Johnalee's comments about Legend of Galactic Heroes being very watchable. Lots of people like VOTOMS as an older series but I never really got into it. Gundam Stardust Memory, War in the Pocket, and the 8th MS Team are good quality Gundam animes.
My personal favourite though is Heroic Legend of Arslan.
Of the newer series, Witch Hunter Robin, Initial D and GITS:SAC are very good, as is Planetes. And I see that Thomas has mentioned Zipang--also very entertaining--like "Final Countdown" from the Japanese perspective.

I guess that I should watch Appleseed - Tom recommended it highly when he saw it.
I guess that I kinda got Anime'd out at some point. It seems like I was watching Anime all the time for a while. I've had a break and I'm ready for some more.....

I just saw something fairly new that I liked. It wasn't what I expected when I rented it, but I really liked it.
It was something called "Steamboy"
It took place in the early 1900's England - the english language version even had some pretty convincing Northern England accents. It all centered around the development of an invention that worked off the power of steam. Kind of fantastic story for the era of the film! The anime was terrific and so was the story. I'd give it a recommendation if you haven't already seen it.....

Yeah, I saw it's limited UK showing in Manchester, England, where the film starts off in.
Its a great film, good story, good charactors, but above all, good execution of animation and CG.
Its also great for the sub genre 'Steam Punk' anime, which catagorises anime shows that have some underlining technical aspect with steam. The genre has great shows, but none are overtly popular outside of Japan. This film has brought some new light to old classics. From steam boy the only other popular Steam Punk anime is Sakura Taisen(Sakura Wars).

Wanna know something interesting? My mother was born in the UK - Yorkshire specifically.
I'm a very big Anglophile! I always watch BBC America!

Last Exile, Escaflowne.
I absolutely loved these two shows. I'm also a little biased on the both, simply because Last Exile was done by Gonzo Digimation, and Escaflowne was create by Shoji Kawamori.
I have been a fan of Gonzo Products ever since I sat down and watched YukiKaze! Awesome Macross Plus style animation about Fighter planes and aleins.
I've loved Shoji Kawamori from Super Dimension Fortress: Macross TV show, and almost all of his creations have faired just as great.
