My Turtle Died.
I had two turtles, one I named Apollo (the larger one) and the other Starbuck (the smaller one). I came home to find Starbuck gone. I only had him two weeks so now I am off to the store where I bought him (actually he was a gift).

What do you mean gone? Was he in the house or outside in a pond? They can live quite some time without food like several days are you sure you looked everywhere? I wouldn't give up quite so fast Kingfish, they can fit into some crazy small places. Mine used to turn sideways and hide behind the dresser and the bookcases. On the other hand if it was outdoors then anything from racoons and birds like crows etc will make off with them unless you fence in the pond and put netting over it too.

oops! I had not considered that interpretation... in that case it might me something in the water better wait before introducing anyone new. could be plant material, something he ate etc. might want to look into that first.

Sorry to hear about "Starbuck", Paul. How's "Apollo"? You might want to follow Rowan's advice and check their environment for any waterborne "sickness" before introducing any newcomers.

These were house turtles. I changed the water as instructed and fed him according to plan. Apollo is fine so far. I quickly changed the water when I found Starbuck dead.

Kingfish
What are you going to name him??? Is it StarbuckII? My daughter and son got beta fish and hers(she is 5) died in two days ..She was devastated and we have never gone through a more gut wrenching experience with her....anyway, she named her next fish RosieII.

Ours we just call Turtle. When we got him he was the size of a quarter. Now he is the size of a large dessert dish. We have him in a 20 gallon aquarium with filtered water. He has all sorts of climbing rocks. He is about four years old now. He just came out of his hibernation mode and has started eating again...I just gave him a bath and scrubbed his shell and he shed all of his plates and he feels very frisky now.... Sometimes we put very small minnows in his tank for dinner. He loves catching them
General Info: Anyone that buys a turtle, buy a turtle book and learn all you can. They need more than just water. Way more... They need a special light if they can't get sunlight and tap water can make them sick sometimes. We use the same drops for the water that we use with our fish...
Sorry to hear about your turtle, Paul. Those little guys get such personalities.......

I have 2 betta's. They must be kept seperate and need declorinated water.
As if things couldn't have gotten worse, I had a parakeet named Bojay until today. I had to return it to the store because I broke out in an itch. I am still itchy. I think it had to do with pet dander.

The beta's were seperate(they did tell us that). I guess they had a couple from that batch die....but of course one of them had to be hers on only the 2nd day....You should have seen it she was wailing tears..."my fishy, my fishy" and she wanted to hold her...so We went with it and she put the fish up to her cheek and "hugged" it to say goodbye. We were like" Oh just put a knife in our hearts now and twist it" It was that painful...I actually had to sleep with her that night she was so distraught...I think George Carlin said something like"buying a pet is like buying your own personal tragedy" So true.

yup. my mom had problems with two bettas she had recently bought. the first one died after a couple of weeks and then the next one she bought died after a couple of days. I asked her where she got them and she told me Petco. I just laughed. I told her that figures. I had gotten my tank at Petco and them bought fish there. The only one of the original fish that is still alive it my catfish, Baltar. I told her to go to the pet store we used to go to. Never had problems there. As for me, I go to PetSmart. I have had too many problems with fish from Petco. PetSmart has a 14 day guarantee on fish.

We bought these beta's at a fish shop called Neptunes and they did replace it but that did little to make any of us feel better....She even told me if Rosie II dies she doesn't want another one.....She wants a bunny now. Awh to be 5 again..........................................

Im sorry about your turtle. But you know, (joke coming) that's what you get for naming him Starbuck, then putting him in a bowl with no cigars, no drink, no lady turtles, and having to listen to Apollo go on all day! He may have committed turtlecide...
I hope Starbuck II fares better. Okay, I have a weakness for bettas- I feel sorry for them, cooped up in those little cups. So I have a 10 gallon tank with one betta fish, a very spoiled fish.
