No it's not. The moon left Earth orbit six years ago.
We saw all the historical documents that said so...

Yes, that much is true...
I watched the "historical document" of the moon blowing out of earth orbit six years ago just last night to commemorate the anniversary of the departure of Moonbase Alpha and the brave 311 men and women sent out into the unknown reaches of space.
I think what we see in the sky is our desire to still see the moon, or it's clever Cylon plot.....
It was also Barbara Bain's birthday yesterday as well!
Best,
Bryan

What you see in the night sky is nothing more than a clever hologram maintained by NASA to convince the people of the earth that there is no problem.

Peter -
Don't you just love Brian Johnson's "space scapes"? I really think that was one of the most stunning touches that he added to Space:1999. The one thing you can't argue about is some of the wonderful visual effects that made that show a one of a kind for it's time.
Best,
Bryan

Funny, I thought it was a balloon escaped from Barbra Bain's B-Day celebration that we see up there. Oh well...

Lucas wanted Johnson to do Star Wars but I think he was still busy doing 1999. He got him for Empire though.
The space shots are really effective even today, the black of space is a deep black and the planets and starfields are very well constructed.

Guess what I have as my wallpaper on my PC? The shot you posted in this thread. It looks great!

Just shows that a computer isn't the be-all and end-all of FX. Probably would come as a surprise to a younger generation.

Even though I do a lot ofCGI, nothing beats the physical models of ships. Those you can actually put your hands on and get a feel of the awesomeness of them
