battlestar images
I originally posted these for the Battlestar modelling contest, only to realize afterward that the contest was over. My usual timing.
The link below will take you to the Galactica gallery of my web site. The top 3 pics are models based on Ralph McQuarrie's pre-pro illustrations.

Hope you like them,

Great job, Dave!
Dave -- thanks for posting the GeoCities URL for your art samples. We've been getting numerous downloads of your meshes/images from your sections on BattlestarPegasus.com. (The bandwidth allocation is constantly being strained. Somebody's having fun with the large file downloads on BattlestarPegasus.com!)
The pics look terrific as always!
We can only hope to see more artists rendering pics with your models. Viva la BSG art revolution! (lol) Speaking of which, I've been prepping a brand-new pic of my own with those beautiful Galactica and Viper models of yours. Methinks it's time to get it finished and posted soon...

...who wonders if anyone recommends any specific book(s) for Lightwave or 3D Studio Max lighting... (Realistic lighting is tough, despite the skin textures on various meshes!)

Michael, as for lighting in Lightwave, Kier has a lighting tutorial on his ap3d site.

Thanks. I'll have to give it a look.

Since I own my own copies of both 3D Studio Max 1.2, 3, and Lightwave 5.6, that's not a problem. Learning the programs with my schedule -- that's the problem! And lighting seems to be my biggest learning curve for the moment.

That is the great mystery of all. To tell you the truth any artist Micheal deals with this very aspect every single time he starts a project. I learned alot from many people here escpecially guys like Fabio and TheHobb. TheHobb(aka Todd Boyce) works professionally and he was a big help initially.
Basically where i would start is with the 3 way lighting rig and that's explained very well at Kier Darby's site for one. Check out https://www.ap3d.com. He has many tut's that help out with this specific aspect.
One thing, lighting does you absolutely no good unless you have a quality mesh to go with it. You could have the perfect lighting setup but without a detailed mesh it could fall completely apart.
One book i can point you to is Digital lighting and rendering by Jeremy Birn. You can find it at amazon.com. It was really informative.
Hope this helps some.
Merry Christmas!

These pictures show some GREAT art from a very talented guy. He also produced a CGI comic as I understand it, which was available on 3Dgladiators......sadly the link in the old thread doesn't work.......could you see if the old files still exist with you Warrior ?

Probably the issue people had was that geocities is crap and they decided there was too much traffic on the site, so they shut it down. I had that problem and switched to Image Shack.
