interiors test for my Galactica project...
Here's another test shot from my upcoming Galactica project.
I built the interior Galactica corridors in just a few hours. The corridors were built using Blender, and the functioning doors were part of the iClone Starship Interiors package. At the end of the corridor in the second camera angle is a photographic plane, used to make the corridor look even more vast than it really is. I connected two corridor pieces, and then used the plane to create the illusion of a third.
The character walking in the corridor is Starbuck's new protegee, Lt. Shaen.

Re: interiors test for my Galactica project...
Thanks, Ger.
The corridors were probably one of the simplest things I could've constructed.
I think I'll tackle the bridge next...and probably the Imperious Leader throne room.

Re: interiors test for my Galactica project...
Cool- Something not much thought of- The interiors.
I have heard of iclone and blender- one day must check them out.
I am so new to 3d world and apps, I got enough on my hands(mind) as it is.
Interesting you mention the Throne room. Does anyone know what it actually is or looks like?
I made one (sort of)At least that is what I called it- is in the Video Annihilation. Be interesting to see what you may envision for it.

Re: interiors test for my Galactica project...
Thank you, my friends.
Queenhunter, I'm pretty much just gonna go for photographic reference on it, as seen in Saga of a Star World. I've already made two or three screen captures that I will base my build off of. I did the same thing for my Galactica corridors. I'm glad you like the Galactica corridors. Blender is a very powerful and very free model building and animation program. iClone is relatively cheap compared to other animation apps...and it is really easy to create cool characters and animations. They have a great community of folks who are far better at this than I. iClone Pro probably runs about 200 to 250 bucks...but I've found it far more worth the money than Daz3D. In order to convert stuff from Blender to iClone though, you'll need one more program (made by Reallusion, the folks who make iClone) called 3DEXChange. (probably about 150 bucks) 3DEXChange will allow you to import and convert .obj and .3DS files into .vns files for iClone....and believe me, it is well worth it. I have found that props and ships I have imported from Blender into iClone run a heck of a lot better than any props or ships I attempted to make within iClone.
I'll show you a link of my progress over the last couple of years since starting with iClone....and I can say this...I've only been working with Blender for a few months. The progress I've been able to make since the learning of thee app (and I still have a LONG way to go to fully learn it) has been incredible!

Ger, the bridge will certainly be a fun challenge. I've been debating building a more accurate bridge via Blender, or just sticking with the one I already built in iClone. What I might do, assuming my current project proves popular enough, is keep the iClone bridge for use in another possible project....Galactica: The Last Battlestar, which is my own retelling of the Cylon attack, and man's exodus to the stars. The one that combines elements of both the original and new series in a way that actually works...and is much more palatable to fans of the original series.

Re: interiors test for my Galactica project...
Thanks for all the info.
I have heard of all these apps and really have seen just a smidgen of the results they make. I really would like to get them and try them or learn them.
What you did looks like a good means to make/create a story with chars-animation.
I am so new to it all. and Cinema4d has so much to it, it will be years before
am really proficient.Along with after Effects.
I also gotten 3ds and tbh do not think I will use it much. It is too confusing
ATM-will maybe gradually over a long time will learn it.Mostly for conversion.
It looks like it requires reading Hieroglyphics lol All symbols.
Also Interposer Pro- Am curious of this one too.
Daz3d-Blender-iClone All I have been wanting to look at-
only so much time in a day :-)

Re: interiors test for my Galactica project...
I personally wouldn't waste my time with Daz3D. I bought it, and it certainly looks good, but I can't figure out how to make things work on it. I'm rather ticked that I wasted good, hard-earned money on such a confusing and frustrating app.
Blender is free, and I learned its basics in a very short time, and started building models rather quickly.

Re: interiors test for my Galactica project...
Ok, I think I've finally licked part of the shadows issue. I have to use a single director light, and single point light, otherwise, the shadows disappear. Also, this means I'll have to shift the light sourcing when shooting in other parts of the corridor set, but that's not a major deal at all.
The first video, using "self-cast" shadowing, puts me in the mind of "ALIEN" or 1984's "DUNE". The second video looks much more correct, with "drop" shadow effects. I'm sure as I experiment further, I'll get even more dynamic effects. But for now, this looks really good in my opinion.
The ALIEN/ 1984's DUNE effect:
The more proper effect:

Re: interiors test for my Galactica project...
Hey Steve, lookin good. Is there a way to ramp down the ambient intensity? It seems a bit high and washes out quite a bit of the detail. I have no idear if the program your using gives you that option to turn off ambient lighting.

Re: interiors test for my Galactica project...
Oh yeah, I can adjust the ambient lighting. It's still a test, so there's quite a few things I can do. I do think the color integrity is pretty good though in the second video, which is what I'm running with. Glad you like it.
