This story was a turning point in the early period of the VS. I had started out with a formidable male Council adversary in the form of Sire Antipas (a character borrowed from some of my other fanfic universes), someone young and charismatic. But then after Maggie introduced a jewel theft element in the second VS story, that became an opportunity to make Antipas the ringleader of the old theft (I was thinking back to the movie "The Thomas Crown Affair") and thus this set him up for eventual exposure which occurs in this story. But the catch is that it put Antipas now in a subordinate position to his Council mistress, Siress Lydia who building off the power she now holds over Antipas, diminishes him and enhances her own power and influence.
