The Desanto Cylon Warrior Statue
I spoke to Tom DeSanto on Wedensday evening and was surprised at his call so quickly after the holidays. I was real pumped up for a Galactica discussion, and asked numerous questions, and to my surprise again, he asked me a number of questions. We talked for a long while and Terri (Warriorchemist) had a real "BITCH" session about the "NEW" Galactica interpretation and his take on it.
Anyway, I told him my ideas of what of his designs I'd like permission to sculpt and he was very pleased and excited with the idea that I wanted to take on these projects and make models of them. He told me he would send me all that he could get together and help me in anyway he could. We're making plans soon to go to Hollywood and have just a day of fun with him, and discuss Galactica's future. We are beyond excited and fully committed to getting his continuation made a reality. And for ALL GALACTICA fans, he said that my work that I was doing was giving him more ideas and real excited about it.
That being said, I and Terri are fully committed to his continuation of the original Battlestar story.
Here is the very begining of the DeSanto Cylon warrior sculpt, only have 1hr. of time invested in this model. It will stand approximately 11 1/2" to 12" tall, and will be cold cast in gold and bronze and silver resin.
The first pic is of the model that was made for Tom and the others are my begining sculpt. Hope you like it. They will cost $100.00 and $10.00 for shipping, we'll figure out the insurance rates on this piece.
Pre-orders will soon be taken and build-up services with lit eyes and controls on suit will be made available. Also build-ups will be chromed using that bad-a$#ed-expensive chrome paint! Pre-orders will be available for 6 only and will be a special price of $85.00 plus shipping. Limited to 6 only. Will continue to update info and pics regularly.
Colonial pilots in the DeSanto outfits will be along soon. As well as Raider and possibly the DeSanto Battlestar!

Why don't you do it in an action pose and then do the Warrior and make it so that their individual bases can interlock and it looks like they're having an altercation. It'd be like the old Aurora kits.
They were going to do a Flash Gordon and Ming the Merciless on that very idea but they never got round to it before they went out of business.
Anyway, that's a suggestion.
Best,
Peter

Hey Peter.
Cool suggestion, but let's take a vote to see how many would like that idea. And now that you've given that idea, thanks. But what do you think of the sculpt so far?

I like it, but the Cylon looks like it's got two eyes instead of one. On the DeSanto sculpt you can see a bit of a gap in the middle on yours you can't.
In the BSG game FMVs they got it about right IMO.
Best,
Peter

LOL! Yes I knew this when I began. But I allowed the sculpt to dry that way so that I could dremel it clear later. You'll see the corrected eye soon.

Now that I examine it, that head design has alot in common with the Marvel Comics "third generation" cylon warrior from the old comic series.

The game designers swore to me that they DID NOT model their Cylon after DeSanto's. It was a sensitive issue for them.
I was wondering what happenned to this project.
Put me down for one of these.

Thanks for sharing, Good looking stuff!! I hope the casting run is a financial success! (so you can do more....).
As someone who hangs with people who make and use armour, I'd like to pose you a few questions to consider... apply them or disregard them for this or other projects as you see fit
Aesthetics or function?? is the curve/part/placement there for function (strength, defense, etc) or aesthetics (enhancing the visual appeal)
If the reason is aethetic, do the Cylons care about this? Do the cylons have artistic expression??
What does (...part...) protect? Are there sensetive parts that need greater concealment?
What does part need to protect the wearer(unit) from?
How does (..part.) interact with the parts around it? Does it enhance or detract from their function? During a full range of movements?
How would it be put on? (Less critical if we assume Cylons don't really need to get dressed, but has some applicability to repairs or modifications)
What is the required degree of compromise... power vs weight, protection vs mobility, unit cost vs expendibility..
btw, I'm not trying to suggest you do 'details freak' if that isn't your thing, after all artistic expression is just as good a reason as any!!
Cheers,
Lara

Okay Lara, these are all great things to consider when building workable armour, that one human would wear and be funtionable. But, we are talking about Cylon design. Not human. We are doing a sculpt to the most exact specs of Tom DeSanto's Cylon Warrior that we can. And from what the suit design looks like, it was indeed mobile, and fully functionable. Thanks though for the suggestions.
And Sandy, Terri and I have you down for 10 of these babies!

No worries.
As I said, use 'em or lose 'em as you need 'em
tho I do disagree with your assumption that the questions are only applicable to a human in armour, as I believe they are important considerations for functionality.
Cheers,
Lara

that's a nice cylon, his head is very imposing and not as off looking as the new cylons whose heads when they're not human don't look much like cyclons exceopt for the ships who look like flying cylon heads

This has come farther as the new pic will show. But i don't have a lot of time to do much to it because of the viper progress. But when the viper is at a rest point or I'm waiting for glue or whatever to set, then I can mess with him. Still refining and adding and just working the shape. It'll be a little over 10" tall I estimate.

Looking MUCH better. The sculpt images at the top of the page have an almost comedic quality about them. I think it has to do with the mouth grill area.
Like they came from a "Duck Tales" cartoon or something.
