Colonial Fleets Techical Manual
I hope this will grab some attention for this project.
My plan is to start this in the next week or so but I am looking for some help in some areas.
Some of you many have seen the latest thread start by Apolloisall. who asked the time honoured question "how big is the Galactica". link below.
https://www.colonialfleets.com/forums...ad.php?t=17741
This got me thinking and using Folkrms excellent Galactica model, I worked out to my satisfaction that the Galactica is around 6080 ft long as implied by Glen Larson (Producer) and John Dykstra (VFX supervisor).
(Please don´t discuss that in this thread)
So I always wanted to do or make a Technical Manual for the Galactica.
some of the member are already helping in this but I would like more to speed up the process.
I am looking for a few things, some I have already mentioned else where but I will repeat here.
I would like to have the best models I can for this. some have been offered but I well mentioned them here again.
In CGI Formats OBJ or Lightwave (this is all I can use)
Colonial
1. Battlestar Galactica (Folkrm)
2. Colonial Viper
3. Colonial Shuttle
4. Colonial Laser Pistol
5. Colonial Personal Equipment
6. Colonial LandRam (have)
Cylon
1. Cylon basestar (Raffs)
2. Cylon Raider
3. Cylon Tanker
Characters
I would like to have someone who has these things in Poser or Daz or even better Lightwave to knock some Character out. (I tried a conversion from Poser and it was crap)
These will be scaled also standing along side Viper and Raider
to help to see what scale things are or could be.
Colonial Warrior (Male)
Colonial Warrior (Female)
Colonial Warrior Bridge Officer (Male) (or the blue uniform)
Colonial Warrior Bridge Officer (Female)
Daggit in CGI (if possible)
Imperious Leader
Cylon Warriors.
Eastern Alliance Destroyer. (I am going to try an build that in lightwave)
Other areas will be the Planetary System of the Colonials and Cylons. how they are structured but that will follow the Tech Manual.
We can use CGI programs for that.
much work has already been done over the years. but with building things and other aspects of it will take a lot of time
for me to do this alone.
So if you can help in area above or other I have not mentioned post it hear.
The Object is also to fix if possible any errors or omissions that we have at other times discussed. I don´t want to bash the out there and now.
the final product will be made available here in PDF formant.
so if you can help say so here even if you said so before.
my hope is that later we can make a fan film, which I have already discussed with Martok my idea.

If i remember correctly Mike McAdams and Ken Thompson Jr. did a technical journal of some kind a while back. Is that what your aiming for?

Yes.. as much as possible.. but my idea and hope is to expand on what we know
using the knowledge base of the members here as much as possible.
Using Folkrms Galactica and using that I will build a new bay. using the good parts of
my model (don´t want to rework the whole thing if I don´t have to )
I saw Mike and Ken work and loved it.. but I also want to add more info and details.
Like having the Viper and a pilot side by side to show scale
Battlestar along side a basestar to show scale.
the hand laser
Human and Cylon side by side the histroy
showing possible laser turrets locations. I am reworking mine again and to finish it. and build the smaller model if I can get some good images.

Re: Colonial Fleets Techical Manual
Hello T, I think a Tech Manual is an awesome idea.
When the McAdams/Thompson Tech Manual was announced in 2000 I was so looking forward to that. I managed to glimpse a few pages of the proposed manual that was released in some Realm Press Galactica comics that I bought. I remember one interesting view of Alpha landing bay in a 3D partial cutaway. The Bridge shots were very detailed. Amazing stuff. I was so disappointed when the project was canceled.
I do not model (yet...thought about getting into it) and I am not a writer, but I would be interested to contribute to this project in some way, shape or form. I'm not sure how much help I could be, but if you need to "bounce" any ideas around or get my opinion about something, please feel free to call on me.
I've always wondered what was inside the "Big G" (size, compliment, armament, etc) and the organization of the Colonies for that matter. I've had some ideas about all that over the years and would be willing to discuss things if you'd like. I would be at your disposal (so to speak... ).
I hope this offer helps you in some way.
Best to you my friend.

Yes thanks .....
these are questions I would like to address .......
Scale
Crew complement
how are the colonies arranged.
where all the weapons of the Galactica are located
where are the shuttle stored
where is the food stored
what is the duration of a standard voyage of a battlestar.
there are lots
this is where we as a fan base can address these questions
and hopefully create an expanded universe for it.
for example
the Viper Complement of a Battlestar
we have read and heard that it 75 viper
OK that's fine ,.... but using the 6080 scale of the Galactica
I would put 75 vipers in each launch bay bring it up to 150 vipers
the Cylon Basestar has 300 Raiders ..... so a battlestar been half the size should have half the fighter complement too

Re: Colonial Fleets Techical Manual
That diagram of the colonial pistol isn't a bad one. It's different from the resin versions I have here though, I can provide pics of the resin version that most of the people getting into costuming are using if you are interested.
Like you, I HATE the Colonial laser rifles. I actualy prefer the design of the rifles used on the Proteus prison astroid. I have been wanting to try and redesign the rifle myself, using the pistol as a base for the rifle. Essenially stretching the pistol into a carbine/rifle.
I'd be more then willing to work with you to include this rifle design in your manual. If there is anything that Blackstar Squadron can do for you (the costuming group) Just ask.

that´s great, this is want I want a real collaborative event
for this.. if you can design it I can build it in Lightwave....
I cannot for the life of me remember the design of the Proteus Guard Rifle..
My thinking at the moment for the one see in the Episode Baltar's Escape that those could have been a civilian alternative stored aboard the ship that became the prison ship. perhaps a riot gun that civilian services use board ship.
I am going to included the design anyway as been stored aboard civilian vessels perhaps but we can discuss that

I'd be honored to throw my .02 cubits around on these subjects. I am thinking we should start a separate thread for that. Title it "Battlestar Stats"? How does that sound, T?

I'm curious about the page layout for this. What logos will you be using? Backgrounds? etc etc

Taranis;
I see you are working on the Galactica AA Guns, as well. If you would like, you are welcome to use mine, pics below:
I have not textured it yet, but that shouldn't take too long.
