Default Daggit Helmet from Galactica 1980

Here are pictures of my (almost) finished Daggit helmet. I still have to add the lights. The last few pics show it next to a (modified) Marco BSG helmet.

https://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mommyd...bum?.dir=/4429

A little history:
This style of helmet was seen in only one episode of Galactica 1980- 'Spacecroppers'. They replaced the regular warrior helmets in this episode and would presumably have done in future episodes had the show continued. In this episode, the Galactica's 'D' Squadron (nicknamed 'The Daggits') is seen wearing this style helmet, but painted in black and gunmetal gray. Later Troy and Dillion are seen wearing them, but this time in the familar black and tan colors.

The story I was told (although I can't remember who told me or when) is that the stuntmen who rode the flying motorcycles wanted a helmet that was based on a real cycle helmet for safety reasons, so this style was created. (If anyone has info or corrections to this, please speak up!). Ironicly, we never got to see anyone on the turbocycles wearing a Daggit helmet (the bike footage in Spacecroppers looks to be stock from an earlier episode).

Another intersting thing about the design: The Daggit helmet is different enough that there doesn't seem to be an attempt to make these helmets look like they ARE the old Viper helmets, but rather just a change or an evolution of the pilot helmets. Othewise, they could have just built a fiberglass shell completely encasing a safety helmet that looked more like the originals.

This style of modifyed motorcycle helmet (with just a few omitted details) also became standard for the Battle Of Galactica attaction.

Questions of comments welcome!

Sorry to say this is a one-off; I won't be duplicating it.

Argh!

Sorry... I need to clarify... "Seriously... how much?" meant what did it cost you to make that?

Mark,

Interesting. Thanks for showing this.

Peter,

Some day I'm gonna have to ask just what all you have tucked away.

A little more info:

The originals were build on top of Simpson brand motocross helmets. The Simpson company still exists, but I have no idea if they still make the same style of helmet.

Not much- I got the add-on parts years ago- I traded something for them (the parts by the way are molded from a screen-used helmet). I picked up the helmet at a thrift store a few years ago. Paint, putty, etc.

Its a custom mix- the color is based on a match to an original helmet that somebody did for a friend years ago. I'm not certain, but I think the info came from Chris Pappas- I'll have to check on the source. Its not 100% perfect, but its pretty darn close.

Thanks!

No, as a matter of fact I don't have molds. I got a set of parts (side slabs, light bars, eagle, etc.) from someone else years ago. I may at some point take some molds of the parts so I could do the gray/black version of the helmet for myself, but I won't be offering copies- I obtained the parts with the agreement that they not be reproduced.

Even though it was over a decade ago, and the parts would be easy to mold and reproduce, I must still honor the agreement.

Do you know what I could do with one of those helmets? Actually, you probably don't want to know. Seriously, that's just awesome.
