Default Fan Concept for GINO animated series

Its fan-produced and a very different look than what Tom DeSanto had in mind but interesting nonetheless.

Fan-made GINO animated series artwork

All my best,

Russell

It all falls into a black hole, and is forever expunged from the universe?

The artist did more than just impressions for Battlestar Galactica, but his impressions Firefly, Star Wars, and lots of other sci-fi and fantasy as well. This guy is a genius! Good find, Russell.

Check out this guy's Deviant Art page: I guarantee you'll find something you'll like! (I would recommend to those who are sensitive toward BSG stuff, staying away from the new BSG art, unless you wish to be offended at the number of fans there are for the art and the show.)

Yeah, he's definitely got talent.

My only reservation in his work as a "concept" is that the frames look great as single cells but I wonder if the same style would hold up for a full animation. This looks like a pure 2D set of illustrations done with either PhotoShop or Corel Painter. Even with computers to aide in the animation and assembly, you're still talking about at least 24 frames per second (roughly 17,000 for a 1/3 hour show) and that's a lot for this sort of animation.

Still nice to see someone who has real artistic talents flaunting their stuff.

All my best,

Russell

I agree, Russell. Would he have the patience to do that sort of work. Granted, today, there are computer programs (some even available to consumers) that would allow him to take such static characters, and animate them convincingly using keyframes, without compromising the style (too much if at all).

Programs like Anime Studio and Crazy Talk would really come in handy for such an endeavor.
