SteveW's got probably one of the best Galactica meshes out there.
This is gonna be slow in coming, as any fan-film project is most likely to be, but Dark Exodus oughtta be a fun undertaking.
Thanks to all so far who have shown an interest in this.
Humbly,
Martok2112

One of the thoughts I have is that with 14th Colony Fanfilm in preproduction .. and a lot of work has been done on this by a lot of people all in their own time. and some like myself that has to learn as I go .....
My first test animation for the film was very rough .. that can be seen near the end of the extended trailer hoisted at the web site.. (the link is in my signature area) .
but with this there is experience gained and and shared .. I have no problem helping out once the 14th is finished Sorry wrapped )
You going to have the same problem that we or the producers are having with the most basic things .. the CGI is easy .. that created in a PC.. Your problems are the thing your characters are going to need and use on set.
Uniforms
Weapons
sets
mock up of Vipers
etc ..
the list is endless
Sept17th would have a better idea of what needed ..
anyway those that can help or want to help in such an endeavour should see how they can help with the one already
far in to production ..
If this is to work and bring the BSG fanbase in to the same Fan Film productions as seen with Star Trek and Star Wars
fan Films . We need some form of Data base of where people are in relation to the film location..
Me I am in Ireland .. more of the players and producers are in the USA .. so very little I can do in any real way..other than what can be done on a PC
LISTING what they can do , where they are, what they want to do .. Act .. build sets.. make uniforms.. make sandwich's on the filming day .. a kind of fan film makers bible so to speak .... I not saying give there address . but perhaps the state they in????
to me that's the biggest difficulty on projects like these .... availability of people that are willing to give up what free time they have and work on a fan film..
what with family's and other commitments ..
Me I love to try the acting ,, just to get that dream out of my system
well that me .. I no more to say at the minute .. because I am knackered

I am also bringing Archangel, who is currently writing the big screen screenplay for Dark Exodus into this fold.
Looks like the crew is starting to shape up?
Anyone else interested?

The Klingon and I will chat about this endeavor some time probably before Christmas. Like Taranis alluded to my hands are full with 14th Colony and that is where my focus will be till it’s done. I’ve been on the record that if some one else wants to tackle another Battlestar film when 14th Colony is done count me and my resources in.

I have been thinking .. (what do you mean oh oh?! )
once the 14th fan film has been completed.. I as I said will be glad to help and these fan film will help to encourage
greater attention to Classic BSG .. I just seen the latest ST VOYAGES release with Chekhov been the focus .. and incredible piece of work.. But Trek is easer to tackle .. IMHO taking nothing from the work they have done ...
but look at what you got in Trek..
A single ship (Enterprise fairly big) 7 0r 8 key members of the crew .. bridge simple corridor Transporters .. shuttles .. space planets .. effects.......
a fan base that has work for years doing fan films .. and each more that happy to help another group working on fan films including effects...
Look at BSG
220 ships of various classes and sizes . the key vessel over mile long. a bridge that you can play tennis in ..... a corridor (that's the easiest part) support vessels Vipers shuttles (we have in CGI but NO TRANSPORTERS .. i bet larson nearly kicked himself when he thought later about it ) landing bays , laser pistols uniforms
ETC ETC .. now these tasks are a huge undertaking .. to sort out how thing are to be done ..
I goes back to a post I made before .. the help that needed ....
One of the thing I was thinking of ..(yes we back to this) is ..
a lot of shots effect wise are in space .. Galactica .. Vipers ... etc..
so why not use CF as a home base ...... and shot not used in 14th are stored
here or somewhere .. for fanfilms to use ..
Like the opening shots of the fleet in the titles .. music .. the cast of the show can be added by the new fan film crew... Viper on patrol . stock film .
So that unless a new fan film needs a specific shot of a viper attacking a wall or what ever .. it frees the animators to focus on the new shot saving time ..
every thing in 14th is from the ground up ... every thing is new .. re-textured
that's what's taking time .. RJ is working his butt of on effect . sept17th like wise
in other areas . and we have more people joining in and helping in other areas
this is a little disorganised. (I just got up) but you get my point ??
we need a central collective. BSG is a different animal to Trek.

Those are some interesting ideas there, Taranis.
Of course, if you remember the nature of Dark Exodus, a lot of this stuff is going to be Earth based too...especially the Cylon attacks on Earth. Still, to have a source to draw some stock footage from is a good idea, and indeed would save time (and patience) for the meshers/animators, etc.

I remember .. I'll need to re read it.. but I remember the overall feel .. special shot like attacks can be done to specs later ..
opening shots like the fleet moving .. that a lot of ship to animate ..
I really only like to do that a few time ..
getting different angles of the same thing ..
.
Shots need for Dark Exodus .. the fleet approach to earth .. once off .. then you can do shot of only ship needed
the shuttle approaching the big G .. landing on the big G ..
Cylon attacks earth . that a whole new ball game .. you need the help of people use to blending live shots and cgi..
have not even thought how to do that yet .
..
This is not my way of adding barriers to do the fan films .. this is a way I hope to make them become easyer for all of use .. greater the ground work now the easier they be later .....

Taranis my friend, me, you, Scifiguy and Archangel need to have a YIM powwow sometime soon.
I am also anxious to start talking to Sept17th as soon as possible.
Dark Exodus could be a grand endeavor, my friends.

Digger1 was taking time out of his amazing Journey's Fate fanfilm to create an intro to a continuation which all osBSG fansfilms could use. If this was done, it would help them all look like a Battlestar Galactica Continuation Series
Haven't heard any updates from him in a while, I hope all is well with him in the real world.

Well we have to be careful not to suffer from repetitive shots like the original series did. Better to perhaps try and create alternate versions of CGI shots ?

Well, this is the idea of my site. It will showcase the final fanfilms, offer free lifelong hosting etc. But I'm also developing a 'Resources' page. This will include sound FX, CGI models, etc etc. I hope this will help....

yes that what I mean master shots for fanfilms

totally agreed .. But with Lightwave the program I use. I can have multiple camera angles .. and by saving the scene set ups they can easly be altered later .. with lighting extra local suns etc ..creating newer scene .. so the repetitiveness seen in the Classic is a thing of the past ..setting up for me is the worst

That the best thing .... we can use your site as the hub . its best know for fan films anyway .the resource page is the way to go .. .
I have slowed down on the modeling making front to get ready for animation RJ and I where chating about this awhile ago .. so I want to practice ..
