Whats with the Revell Galactica model kits...
You can find viper, raider & basestar re-issues easily online for a reasonable price.
You CAN'T find the Galactica model anywhere and when you do it's on ebay and likely to end up in the near $ 200 range.
Did they hardly make any of them?
It's with great regret not knowing of these model re-issues when they were just coming out. I usually buy things like these for collectible purposes and its not unusual for me to purchase at least 5 when something cool comes along.
Imagine buying 5 galactica models for $ 23.95 a few years ago.
damn.

Re: Whats with the Revell Galactica model kits...
I don't think the classic Galactica kit has ever been re-released. I don't know if it is more costly to re-release it than the other ships or a matter of it being inaccurate. There were rumors a few years back that a new version would be released but nothing has ever come of it.

Here's one on eBay with bidding in the low 20's. The kit listing says that it is unpainted and complete:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Revell-Battl...item48431b00b6
This kit is from the last release, which was back in 1997.

Yes, the Battlestar kit was re-released with the other BG kits. I was lucky enough to buy 2 of them when they were re-released.
Sadly however, of all the BG kits, the Battlestar kit is the LEAST accurate. I managed to modify 1 kit (in my own crude way) to correct a few of the many flaws in the kit. The other one is in mid-modification but haven't touched it in quite a while.
Oh, and welcome to Fleets, johnmiic.

They sold out so fast I never saw them collect dust on the hobby store shelf. Thanks!

Re: Whats with the Revell Galactica model kits...
^^^ Nice work on the accurization there!
Y'know...with the exception of the head area, which is just horribly inaccurate, the rest of the model is quite serviceable with the right amount of detailing added to the surface. The body shape, landing bays and engine module are not too badly done. That damn head is just so pathetically engineered, you would have to cut it up into pieces and virtually rebuild it from scratch to get it more true to the original. The side areas are just too big and the nose dips down so far that it makes the whole thing looks like it's bowing in the middle.

They aren't wide enough. Oh well, we do what we can with what we're given.

Re: Whats with the Revell Galactica model kits...
The Raider,Viper and BaseStar are okay, but the Battlestar model has such distorted proportions its always hard for me to look at one for too long.
I do suspect that many of the earlier Battlestar 3d computer models were probably based on the plastic model kit.
