Re: CG Galactica
On your shot of the engine section it looks like you have 2 vertices sharing a plane. If you look at the roco tank you will see a "brighter" area around a disk detail on the roco tank you built. Either that or you have a different surface name for that area.
Open your statistics panel, select polygons by hitting the space bar, then look at the "2" vertices selection within the panel. See if it show's more than "2" vertices within the polygon's. If it does select the vertices within the panel and delete them. All from within modelor of course.

What! What? What¿ you found the keys to the Ambrosa Locker, what that BST lost in his pocket

OMG you made the switch to LW that was unexpected
I fully understand why and makes perfect sense.
Looking good and coming a long way since I last looked.
Makes me wonder what my ships would like in LW Hmmmm thats a long way off yet

Yes, I made the switch... Trust me it was not an easy decision. Lots of tossing and turning. While thinking it over.
But it all came down to cost... LW is a much cheaper program and comes with a bunch of stuff right out of the box. With Max, it is expensive, plus I would have to get a bunch of other plug-ins, which are even more expensive.
So after mulling this over, I made the switch.
It was like learning to walk all over again. But I'm getting the hang of it and I'm pretty excited with what I can do.
One of the biggest selling points too, was that LW was offering Poser Pro 2012 when you bought LW.
I was able to create this scene.
The Character I created in poser... The bottles and other stuff was modeled in Lightwave. I exported the character into Lightwave layout...
Happy Saint Patrick's day everyone!

Re: CG Galactica
OK, so I thought it was about time I added the name plate to my Galactica.
I also worked on adding more laser cannons and some other details to the AFT section.
I do plan on modeling some bigger guns, to add more variety. But all in due time.
Just for fun, I wanted to re-create one of my favorite scenes. "The turbo lasers""
Going to be working on more ship detail over the weekend. Hopefully I'll be able to start animating soon.

Re: CG Galactica
OK... Getting really close to completion. I'm pretty happy how it is turning out so far and I'm proud of myself for taking the leap into Lightwave.
I was so stressed over making the switch. But I'm really excited with what I've been able to do so far... Thanks in part to all my fellow Lightwavers, who have really been a huge help. Thank you all for your help, tips, and encouragement.
It was very strange going from one platform to another. But it has paid off.
That being said... I have now started adding detail to the belly of Galactica and will probably add a few more weapons to the top and front.
Thanks again everyone.

Re: CG Galactica
I hope you can incorporate music into the finished video. Also, do you know of any programs that could bring your version closer to photo-realism?

Steady continuous progress on your modeling. I think you have a good start on those characters.

The images of the CG Pilot were created in Poser. Which does not have a very strong rendering engine.
Normally what I will do is create the character and import them into Lightwave. I will then assemble the scene and render it in Lightwave instead.
Here are some samples that I've done using Lightwave as the Render engine for my scenes.
I'm still very new to lightwave and haven't messed with the Rendering settings too much. But I will have to say... Lightwave has one of the best "out-of-the-box" rendering engines that I've ever used.
Most other app require a 3rd party rendering engine, like V-Ray to get similar quality.

Re: CG Galactica
I'm pretty much done with the Viper Pilot. There are a few issues... But this guy will be one of the many Background characters that I will have in a scene I'm working on.
I'll eventually model a more accurate laser blaster and holster sometime later. But for now, I'm happy with how this guy came out.
I will be working on the ground crews next.

Re: CG Galactica
Thats lookin pretty good there!
Matador not that it matters but there is an upload feature here on fleets so you do not have to upload your images to another site.
Food for thought. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the tip... But I have no idea how the upload thing works. Could you help me with that?

No problem....
To post images.....click the "reply" button. Once that window is open scroll down until you see the "manage attachment's" field. Click on that and from there it's all good! Just add your images through there.

Re: CG Galactica
So I've finally started to texture my Viper. It's taking some getting used to UV mapping in Lightwave. It is very different from what I was used to. But this is the start.
I just started on the Hull and will soon start on the wings.
