Re: CG Galactica
WOW! Now for a rough cut, that was REALLY cool. Loved the camera sway....very realistic!

Re: CG Galactica
Thanks for the feed back. I really appreciate it. That scene took days of trial and error.
Animating the approach wasn't too difficult, but adding the camera shake was a hole other ball game. I really had to tinker with the program to get the objects around the camera, not to shake with the camera and vise-versa.
Once I figured it out, I then had to fine tune the amount of random shake. Lots and lots of trial and error.
The scene is still rendering... So it probably won't be done until sometime next week. I wish I had access to the render farm ILM or Pixar uses. What is really slowing things down is the fraking motion blur. It's killing me, but without it the scene just looks too fake and digital. Motion blur really enhances the look and feel.
Like in this scene I made a while back.
It's a single still frame, but you get a sense of speed from the blur of the vipers.
Thanks again all for the support.

Re: CG Galactica
Well, I got tired of waiting, so I finished the rendering sooner.
Here is a preview of the Viper Landing sequence, now with the camera shake added.
I'll be making a longer extended scene later. Probably have both some external and internal shots to give it some interest.
Oh and sound effects too.

I'm taking a break and messing around with some new effects. This was pretty fun.
Here are a couple samples.

Re: CG Galactica
Thanks... I working on applying some live action footage of me walking and throughing it into this scene.
Most of the work will be done using my CG program and probably aftereffects for the masking/rotoscoping.
More to come.

Re: CG Galactica
Here are two new screen shots of my Viper landing Scene that I hope to start animating soon.
I added some much needed landing lights and better detail of the landing bay.
I also have been playing with "depth of field" effects, to create a better "first person view" of the cockpit.
Hope you all like.

Cockpit looks a bit GINOesque.

I guess that's a good thing right?
Anyhew, here is an update of the landing sequence... I'm redoing the scene with the new depth of field effect and landing lights added.

Re: CG Galactica
Hello all,
I'm working on a longer landing scene with some shots with internal and external views of the cockpit. Recently I wanted to add some landing lights and small other details to help the scene out.
I've redone my landing sequence from inside the cockpit. This took about three weeks to render this scene out. Maybe if I rendered the scene smaller, may help... Anyhew, here is what came out of the oven.
Here are some stills.

Here is another update... I've been working with motion tracking and I've had a lot of trial and error.
Here is my latest result.

Re: CG Galactica
Dude, that was COOL!
Was that a model Viper you chroma keyed onto that parking lot? Very convincing, especially with the motion pass. Well done!

Thanks Martok... That baby is all CG... It's the same CG Viper I used in my earlier videos.
https://youtu.be/6c1o6q7z078
It's also the same cockpit and nose I use for the landing sequence.
I'm glad it looks like a model... That means my CG must be improving.

Re: CG Galactica
Update... So I'm back to working on a battle scene. Classica cylon raders vs Vipers...
I'm creating some new scenes for this epic battle. I've gone back to my landing back and doing some much, much, much needed work.
So here is a start and I hope to add more soon.
Please keep in mind that everything in this scene is "work-in-progress". The detail on the Vipers are going to be worked on later and so on.

Re: CG Galactica
Here is an update on my re-tooled launch bay... I've added a lanch control box, based a bit from the new sereis... This box does extend into the launch tube, so that the viper can have a finale inspection before launch.

Re: CG Galactica
I always liked that aspect....like a launch officer for each tube.
It was something I was thinking of putting into my own launch bay, but I think I'm gonna go with something more like what we see on a flat top...the guy on the ground who gives the visual inspection and thumbs up to the pilot, and then the pilot does the thumbs up and salute before launching...a la Top Gun.
Nice job there!

Re: CG Galactica
Has anyone ever wind-tunnel tested a Viper model? I wonder if a full-sized one, with actual jet engines, could be made to fly?????
