Re: CG Galactica
pretty cool. I thought I had seen this before but the Viper Thrusters were red?
I like that light effect and love the launch bay-tube scenes.
I also made a new type of thruster light, is really cool animated but really needs to be on a capital ship. Have not got to use it yet.
Is similar to your galactica but mush tighter in noise and faster and is orange/blackish

Re: CG Galactica
Thanks QueenHunter.
If I had all the time in the world I would love to spend more time on detail, but working full time and raising kids, kinda cuts into my hobby time.
Maybe some day I'll get discovered and Glen Larson, or whoever runs the show these days will call me and say "Hey, we want you to make a show for us." I could then round up a team and make things look sweeter than sweet.
But, for now, I'm just throwing things together, because I love animating my scenes. Plus I'm putting together a library of scenes to use to create my web-a-sodes.
Anyhew, I'm working on a scene with Galactica passing through a nebula. It's currently cooking/rendering as I'm typing this.
Here is sort of a screen shot of a test I did. It will look sort of like this:
Until then "so say we all!"

Re: CG Galactica
Here is my first concept animation of Galactica flying out of a Nebula cloud.
This is a first version... I'm not happy with the cloud detail. So I will end up re-doing it.
But here is what it looks like.

Thanks Andromeda... I owe it to lots and lots of research, youtube, and forums... I've met a lot of cool people along the way and I've been amazed at how helpful everyone has been.
I got the nose idea from a combination of the New Galactica series and from pictures of current coning towers on ships...
I'm trying my best to give all my greebles on the ship functionality. I'm just wierd that way.
Anyhew, there's more to come, so keep on checking in.

Re: CG Galactica
Hi all... Had to take a break from my project to help out a buddy and also complete a video editing job.
Anyhew, I've been wanting to create a view from inside the Viper cockpit type thing.
Here is my first concept of it.
There is still more work to do. But I like the slight reflection in the glass. That was a cool unexpected result I got from using a small backlight inside the cockpit.

Re: CG Galactica
Thanks.
I'm working on the cockpit detail. I eventually want to have an animated dash board and lights.
I will search for some reference pics of the cockpits and see what I can create.
I'm currently working on creating an animated display for the cockpit. This is a new trick for me. So I'm hoping it works out. stay tuned.

Re: CG Galactica
Nice. Looks like a combination of both the original series and new series Viper cockpit interiors.

Re: CG Galactica
Your right... I had a copy of the Dradis display and pasted it on my model, just to have something there.
I'll probably change it around later... I just wanted something to have as reference.
I'm currently working on a switch bank and some indicators that blink. Lots and lots of work.
Eventually I'll animate a flyby or something.

Re: CG Galactica
Here is a small update.
Added a little detail to the frame of the cockpit window.
Still working on the Displays and what-not. Probably have something done by the weekend.

Re: CG Galactica
So I'm working on adding display panels and other suff. This again still needs some fine tuning.
I just wanted to get an idea where stuff may or may not go. Eventually there will be some animation of the screen.

Re: CG Galactica
Thanks,
I'm still working on fixing up the displays to make them look more realistic. I'm also working with adobe aftereffects to help create the miscellaneous screen jargin and radar functions going on in the background.
Not sure how long that will take me. But should be interesting.

Re: CG Galactica
Well, here is my first animation test of the Screen displays and the Dradis.
It's only a few seconds long, but it gives you the idea where I'm heading on this.

Re: CG Galactica
Here is an update to the cockpit. I animated a few more screeens and made it a few seconds longer.
I'm currently in processing of upgrading the computer and reloading my OS. I've also got a few projects I'm working on.
Eventually I will have a full animated landing sequence. But for now, here is the update.

Re: CG Galactica
That's great, but how can be so obsessed over this? You don't see ME constantly refining some thing I've made from BSG over & over...

To each there own and because I can. I really wouldn't worry to much about it.
Anhew,
I've revamped the cockpit and changed the material... I wanted something less cartoonie.
I'm currently rendering and animating the landing sequence, but here is a preview of what I've done.

Ahhh, the joke didn't come across too well...
Thing is that I'm about to start a whole new round of Vipers- even better than the last batch! That's the thing I do over & over!!!

Re: CG Galactica
Hello all,
Finally completed rendering my viper landing scene. This scene took me about a week to render...
I had to render about 300 frames at a time, as to not crash my program. But I managed to stich the frames together.
Anyhew... Here it is.
Yeah, the sound effects need some working and fine tuning.

Re: CG Galactica
I'm reworking my "viper landing sequence". Right now the scene is rendering, which is a very agonizingly slow process.
For now, here is a sample of the video in low res/wireframe mode.
https://youtu.be/byW4c8JqVqU
It's similar to my last sequence, but I added a "camera shake" to give an element of realism.
As I mentioned before, the scene is still rendering. So I may be done by next week.
