Download this: https://download.divx.com/divx/DivX511Bundle.exe
and when you install, only check off the codec for installation (don't install the player, the free divx player is ad supported) and your WMP will play divx. I have RealOne and QT along side WMP and haven't had any problems.

Thanks SciFi . I was thinking of installing the codec, but when I installed other video players/codecs on my last computer, it toasted my system. I got blue screens constantly. I was never able to fix it, finally got a new system. Am so afraid of that happening again... I have no luck when it comes to installing stuff, there's invariably some invisible system file replacement or addition that messes with my development tools. (And Windows is sadly lacking in the area of being able to uninstall stuff).
I want to try it, but am just too afraid of what might happen - it's just too hard to get my system configured and running half way decently, don't wanna jeopordize that. But thank you most kindly.

Hi parker! I don't know which codecs I have, just the ones that came with XP Home I suppose (WMP 8.0). I keep Windows critical updates up to date but nothing else. I have not enabled WMP's auto update. Real Player came bundled with my Dell but I'd rather get a root canal than install that again
Thanks,
Muffit

Codecs shouldn't cause you any problems. It's the dll's and how they are written that are the source of many Windows problems. As long as you download or load programs that are written for or are XP (NT and W2K drivers work ok) compatible, you should be fine.

Thanks Sci-Fi, yes perhaps I am being overly cautious about the codecs. Maybe I should try that rather than the player.
Thanks,

the divx codec is pretty safe.
Its one of the more standard codecs.

DIVX
and i was running 3.11 alpha for the longest time with no problems ... even encoded "Spy Games" to absolute perfection. No one who's seen it can tell it's not a DVD!
But yes, speaking from personal experience, Divx 5 is very stable. Just don't use the player. Let your default media player work.

our pleasure!
Btw one really sad thought about this piece came to me. Look at the date.
Three months from the date the World Trade Centers would fall. And the crew that made the DeSanto miniseries would lose morale and fall behind. And the project would collapse.

A little help, please....
Being a Mac user (G4), how do I view the file? I downloaded it, but got errors in QuickTime, then had a friend download it on a Windows based PC, and he can't see the video, either, only sound...
Thanks for any help in advance!

Believe Mac users have to download the Divx Player: https://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
The minimum requirements for Mac:
400Mhz G3 or faster
Video acceleration card with QuickTime support (ATI, NVIDIA)
QuickTime 5 or later
Mac OS 8.6 or later (includes OS X)
CarbonLib 1.2.6 or later
If your friend installed just the codec, he should be able to see the video and hear the sound thru WMP. Check to see if he is running at 24-bit color and has DirectX7 or higher installed. Or did he install the Divx Player?

follow Sci-fi's advice. It sounds like you have a codec problem. And his advice should fix it.

right. It sounds like his player is only decoding the mp3 audio portion of the avi.

Some of the other shots I remember from pre-final versions of the trailer. The cylon design is very cool, but in my opinion, the motion capture is not in character. Still very neat.
I have seen this trailer before on video, and it looks even better. Maybe I can talk Mike into letting us post the one we did for Tom DeSanto....

Hey Ken
Any update on if you and Mike are going to post the demo you did for Tom DeSanto?

What could have been or what should have been.
And I agree, it's what will be.
We just have to wait a little longer thats all and I agree with Don, the new changes to this place will make it more easier to focus on the task at hand (Getting our show that stays true to the original)
Getting our updated continuation.

would it be all right for me to host that file? I've been hosting select hard-to-find things for years, like for instance this:
https://www.changestorm.com/godzilla/
Of course, I did just have a report that my site wasn't working, but i'm pretty sure it was user error. I Hope.
