Re: One of our own is gone
I really don't know what to say, this is truly stunning. Steve's inspiring artwork was the reason many of my designs became known in the community, and for that I can never repay him.
I can't say that I knew him that well, we only passed a couple of dozen emails over the last ten years or so, but I would certainly call him a friend and am greatly saddened by his passing.

Re: One of our own is gone
This is sad news. I did not know him nor converse with him but I am familiar with his work here at CF. The world has lost a talented artist.
It is hard to lose those who we pass by in this world. It reminds me of one of our Battlestar Callisto members who we lost some years back as well. Very sad and my prayers go out to him and his family...God Bless...

Re: One of our own is gone
I was at a loss for words when I heard the news.
What can I say that hasn’t been said already – perhaps a story:
I was doing a presentation on some new software and screwed up a bit. I frequently use Steve’s ships as desktop backgrounds. I was supposed to have app set for full page display but instead it came up minimized, and thee for all to see was one of Steve’s guardians orbiting above a planet. I quickly brought up the app – but then this older gentleman in the back insisted I collapse it so he could see the image. A number of people asked about the artist and commented on how real it looked. This was not a SciFi crowed by any means but I think Steve gained a few new followers that day.
Steve you will be missed, God bless.

Re: One of our own is gone
I'm truly shocked at hear this after i took so long in coming back finally after a long 13 months or so without an internet connection from home.
Steve was a talented artist i've barbed with over the past few years since the attempts to get a BSG continuation going from the fanbase, near the beginning of the 21st Century (circa 2001/02). I genuinely liked the guy and its a pity we'll never get to meet up or something one day, over BSG or his passion for art.
You will be missed Steve Wilson and i truly wish i'd gotten to know you better. And i'm glad you had such an impact on people's with your work, cos many old hard to reach BSG folks and artists have come back to pay their respects to you on here as well.
Condolences to his family.
KJ

Re: One of our own is gone - Memories of Steve "Stevew" Wilson
That was a sad e-mail, really sad... Steve was always a great guy, since the old 3DG days. I never meet him in real world, but I´m more than impressed by not only his skill and talent, but by his generosity to share his knowledge and AWESOME meshes with anyone who asked. A history? Let´s go...
One day I came to this site and, after to see a rendering of ONE of his meshes, I sent him an e-mail asking about a copy and permission for 3dsmax conversions. Next day he repplyed:
A friend from Brazil? How you doing? Yes, you can have a copy of that mesh and of others too. The address is XXXXXXX, good luck in converting them to 3ds max. Let me know when finished.
And the meshes are amazing. Errors? Almost zero... It´s a shame I never finished at least one conversion to show him.
I can't say that I knew him that well, but I would certainly call him a friend and I´m greatly saddened by his passing.
We have lost a gentleman, an entusiastic member, one of our shining stars and our greatest talents.
Take care Steve, whatever you are.

Re: One of our own is gone - Memories of Steve "Stevew" Wilson
My God. This is horrible. I've been away from here for a long time and was shocked to read this as I just happened to come in and lurk about today. He was a major contributor to my Ship Schematics Database many years ago - an extremely kind and talented individual. I would like to put an "In Memoriam" section on the SSDB if possible. Does anyone have a picture of him that I can use?
When Freemasons perform funeral rites, there is a certain part we call "Grand Honors" that we do for a fallen brother. I have no idea if he was a Mason or not, but I think it's still fitting:
"His Spirit to God, His Memory in Our Hearts, His Body to the Earth".

Re: One of our own is gone - Memories of Steve "Stevew" Wilson
I knew him from forums and from his art work, but I never had the privilege of meeting the creative talent behind the words and pictures, but what I saw was awesome and what I read was good.
The internet has many dark nasty scary things that do nothing for the ennoblement of the human race, but just when you want to blitz it for all its evil, you remind your self it is a place of yin and yang and for every cesspit there is a star, a great talent that can be showcased to the widest possible audience, around whom wisdom and friendship flows.
SteveW is missed, his work lives on, may his family find comfort in the absolute fact that he is a star.
regards,
Lara

Goodbye Steve.
Thank you for the kind words, the neverending faith, and the optimism you brought to all things.
May your exploits on the other side bring you as much joy.

All:
I put together a memorial image for Steve that I will be posting on the SSDB soon. I wanted to post it here first to give you all a preview. Many thanks to Pete (BST) for getting me the info and Darrell (Warrior) for the photo. I hope this meets with everyone's approval...

Jim,
Beautiful. It's been 3 months but, that still doesn't make it any easier. This world would be a much better place if it had more people like Steve.

Re: One of our own is gone - Memories of Steve "Stevew" Wilson
I am still missing my dear friend today.
I went to his services, met his family in person. Extremely nice people.
I talked to them about Steve's models he has uploaded on my server, and they said he would want them shared. As soon as I can get to them (ie, making sure they have proper credits to him in them), they'll be released publicly.
Please note our Gallery has a tribute section to him with all of his art he provided us.

Thanks for the image .. I have wanted a face to go with the name since he passed away .. we talked many times through the Fleets PM system and he was
a very encouraging and easy going to a new guy in the ways and whys to render some images and later modelling side of cgi.
as the further encouragement word of Warrior, titan and many more
I started with truespace 3.2 and he would offer his ships and ask for more
" light!!!"
I'd replied back with "but its supposed to be realistic!!!"
and he would counter that with
" To hell with realistic, I want to see my ship"
he always made me laugh at that ..
he always called me Kid.. that use to make me laugh but not now.
he was a gentlemen and a friend

Ironic isn't it. One of the reason's i stayed away from Fleets for quite a while. Steve if your listening don't worry about poly count, it's all good!
What's really scary is i found a few old private messages the other day at Gladiators. You are truely missed my friend and i can't tell you how badly i miss our conversations.

Whenever I think of BSG, Steve's ships and posts here come to mind.
Not necessarily in that order. He was and is still an inspiration.
