I can't believe that this dimwit we have in office wants to spend that much to send us to the moon (where we have already gone) before Mars. There is no way that this country can do that. We are still learning about if there was ever life on Mars. We can not go there until we have all the answers.

The moon is a more strategic place for weapons than Mars. Besides, Helium 3 was discovered on the moon which can be used as an alternative to fossil fuels which is important since he is constantly fighting against energy conservation and fuel efficiency.

It is most likely a re-election tactic. I am not against humans in space but I don't trust his motivations and truthfully the private sector can probably do better, cheaper and create more jobs along the way. Just look at my avatar, a space vehicle built by a non-profit orginization with private funding.

Except the X-33 is now a rotting hulk dumped in the desert, where most of the shell has been pilfered by VIP collectors. "You want a piece of history? Take part of the X-33.
The X-33 had too many technical problems to be feasible.
As for Moon/Mars. I should be excited. I got into aerospace because I thrilled to the Apollo astonauts. But I am not. Manned space should be exciting, but this whole thing leaves me with a vacant feeling. Why go to mars?

I think that this is great, I've always wanted to explore space!
I'll be too old by that time but to live to see that happen would be amazing.
To think we are so close to knowing more about our own system. It is expensive, but I think worth the cost. Maybe someday we will leave Earth and have technology to go beyond our solar system - to boldly go where no one has gone before

I've heard that older people take to space better than young people. Something about the relief of pressure on the heart allowing them to be more active.

I'm all for going to Mars. its a noble majestic endeavor.
but with the economy the way it is, and probably will be, I just want every part of the rocket that goes to the moon to have the Made In The USA label!

My fiance says that he is not voting for Bush again. That man has done nothing positive for this country. Congress wanted to give the federal workers like my stepdad a 4% raise, Bush said "no" and made it a 2% raise. We need a new president fast!

Amazing that a 2% raise is enough to get rid of the man. That 2% is above the cost of living increase (3.1%) and the increases in localitly pay (you get more for working in high cost areas like NY, DC and LA)
There are people who get no increase year to year. Feds seem to have it pretty good, if you ask me....

I see a dangerous problem when AFSCME has the power to raise our taxes to give them raises.
In the private sector, things have been worse for quite a while.
Public sector employees don't even have to make a good or show a profit for shareholders.
I would rather the tax monies go to a trip to Mars than to keep govt workers happy.

I didn't even watch him speak last night on tv. He has nothing important to say that I want to hear. All he is concerned about is his rich buddies and the situation in Iraq. He is taking us back to the time when there was the super rich and the super poor. That is no way for the country to recover and prosper!

I beg to differ. The economy here stinks. Jobless claims where I am at is on the rise!

The economy seems ok mainly because interests have been kept down. There is no way that an economy can survive with massive spending and decreasing income, ie. tax breaks for the rich. The 2 million that have lost their jobs since Bush took office probably have a different view.
I am surprised you have nothing bad to say about our administration after it destroyed the Palace Gardens leaving the Queen in tears without even a "sorry".

Isn't this why Carter lost in '80???
Strange that such reasoning might elect a Democrat in today's situation.
JFK understood that tax cuts can increase net revenues.
Budgets spend actual dollars, not percents of GNP. In the cases of the Kennedy,Reagan, and arguably Bush(43) tax cuts, the treasury actually took in more constant dollars than before the cuts.
A zero or effecively negative interest rates may promote a deflationary economy. Japan has been enduring this for about a decade. I am not so sure that deflation would be a comletely bad thing. Cost of goods and services plumment, and the purchasing power of the poorest is automatically increased in a way that rising wages in an inflationary economy cannot effect.

Re: Bush proposal to send man to Mars
As expected, nothing happened. Obambam pulled the plug, apparently rather spending money on meaningless crap.
We were wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy too optimistic back in '69!
