Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
Wow, words can not convey how enjoyable Galacticruise was! It was so hard to go back to work the following week after meeting such wonderful people - celebrities and fans. Monolith21 and Dilbertman, it was great to meet you both in person after discussing props and costuming for a few years on A.S.A.P. Athena, it was great to meet you as well - and ditto to so many other great fans, some of who I know are on this board as well. Mike, you have put together a great site, you will have more pics from me soon.
Having difficulty positing the pics at the moment, hopefully that will be fixed soon,
Edward

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
Welcome aboard Ed! I'm all for more prop gurus around here! It certainly was difficult to return to work and everything else. It was too cool to just turn a corner and there was another fan that was just as happy to see you. I'm glad you signed on here as well!

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
Can anyone confirm what Glen Larson got up to though? Did he even go to the cruise? (silly question, but so far no one's mentioned him yet!)

Glen Larson did not attend the cruise. I asked Tom to call him personally and extend an invitation and Tom did speak to him just a few days before the dinner but Glen was already committed to something else that night.

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
Hey Ed and Missy! Welcome to the funny farm!
Great report Mike! I know this really does sound like a love fest but it is true, I miss all of you. Life does not quite feel the same now. Although I feel richer for having met everyone, I also kind of feel like I am missing a limb or finger or something. Maybe the chicken ate it. I don't know. It just feels like I need to do something more than I am doing now. I can't really explain it. Anyway, I know I still have a bunch to write.
On meeting Terry Carter: I adore that man. He is very kind and gentlemanly. I throughly enjoyed his film, "A Duke Named Ellington" and constantly wanted to stand and cheer after some of the performances in it. It is just a fantastic piece of work.
I had the pleasure of sitting next to Terry at dinner one night and he really is a charming man. We talked a lot about theatre and music, including a play he did about a jewish family that had a mixed bag of races playing parents and siblings. He was also rather impressed by my wedding cakes and said he wanted to be my agent. And I did make sure to tell him how much we all love his delivery of the line, "When the commander sees this, he is gonna go crazy!" He appreciated that.
Miss you all!
Dy

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
Bryan,
Thanks for the kind words. I wish you had been there man, I'd a bought you a drink or several.
Ed,
Thanks for the props. But I leaned on you for some of the great pics on the report. Keep them coming and I'll keep updating the site.
Mono,
Man I wish I knew who you guys were at the beginning of the week. I do remember your comment about the dress blues. Thanks for letting me don your jacket. I'll never forget that you guys told me the buckles were from suitcases. Reminds me of a book about Star Trek I read where the prop guy went to flea markets to come up with ideas. He used a salt shaker for the instrument Bones used to wave up and down the patient.
KA,
Thank YOU for the kind words about the report and for the get together. I also felt down when I had to return to the "real world" from the cruise. It was just so wonderful to get away from it all, and to celebrate the 30th with people who had the same feeling towards the show that I do. I don't know anybody near where I live that I could pop one of the dvd's in and enjoy. Yet there we were with all those people from the original series enjoying watching the pilot. I heard from Terry Carter recently who said he hadn't seen the pilot in 30 years, and how much HE enjoyed getting together with the fans and watching it.
Again, all I wanted was for people to tell me at the end of the cruise the same thing they told me after the first day; how much they were enjoying themselves. I am so proud and pleased that I could help make it happen.
Mike

Di you put it the best way possible. It feels like something is missing. You all feel like family! I'm getting greedy now...I want to meet everyone who didn't get to go.

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
Thanks for the invite here Mark! I miss all of you who were on the cruise I was really disappointed when we had to leave that Friday morning and get back to "reality". I agree, 5 years is way too long to wait to see each other again. I have a lot of pictures to post once I finish going through them.

Pity, cos his opinions and valid input is what the fans surely wanted!
On another plus point folks. Has CFQ magazine put out another anniversary issue?
Are they silll about by the way.
Being out of the "loop" from my angle. Is kinda of a sore bit.

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
I was just looking at those pictures again and reading all of the posts of the people who were there.
I so wish I could have been there.
Wondering if there's going to be a next one.
*I think someone mentioned that here but I'm not sure*

There is a lot of talk about it but there is nothing certain yet. I am sure that most, if not all, of us would go again if we are able.

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
Even if we don't do a cruise, we need to get together at a con or something! I'm fairly certain that the main ingredient for awesome in this equation is gathering fans together! It can only get better from there!

I could not agree more...if we have too we can put together our own gathering. It wouldn't be that hard or expensive to set up. We would just have to pick the place and time that would be a good central point for us to meet up…a place that would be easy for our international comrades to get too and be able to come as well.

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
choosing a YEARLY convention is a good idea.
I'm a member of the 501st Legion (star Wars costuming) and we do similar things. You pick a convention, one that most likely to get as many people together as possible, and you plan your own events around the con. It would be best to pick one with the most Galactica Celebs attending.
Whoever is local can then look into things as a group dinner (find a place that can accomedate the estimated number of attendees and not break the bank) Maybe even look into a place where a social mixer (not a seated meal) can be held.
Celebs are usually invited, and the cost for their meal would be split into the cost per person for attending (usually unavoidable in this case)
And during the con, it's a good opertunity for those of us with costumes, to get together for group pictures.
I know there have been some attempts to organize the TOS costumers into a 501st like group, but nothing that has taken off world wide yet. I know I would love to see this happen.

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
I love the idea of having our own squadron name. Purple or orange would be great but so obvious. The nice thing about using one of those is that you can actually get patches in those colors.
A lot of us seem to go to Comic Con.

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
I have had experience getting custom patches done. so, if we decided on somethign else, it shouldn't be too hard to get done.
But I've always been partial to Green
Maybe we should start a new topic to discuss the Unofficial Galactica Con, so we can get everyone's input on it.

Re: Galacticruise: AMAZING!!!
I like this idea even more! Comic Con at least has one consistent Galactica panel yearly and that is Richards panel. I've met a number of fellow fleets members there. We should definitely start another topic and link to it from here if that is cool.
I think it would be great if this whole thing was an off shoot of fleets (not so subtle bug in the ear). Its hard to gather us Battlestar fans together elsewhere.
