There have been 2 or 3 sellers on eBay selling "DVDs" of the miniseries since it first aired. A buddy of mine bought one of them and paid over 40 bucks for it (why......?). What he got looked very similar to that item. It was a DVD-R of the miniseries on 2 discs. They were nicely packaged with all the trimmings. The discs had the mini logo and poster art printed on them and the case had matching artwork.
What was on the disks was another matter - it was the miniseries with the commercials edited out and the picture quality had a very "pixellated" look to it. It was probably a low-resolution transfer from VHS tape. I showed my friend my VHS copy that I made myself and he liked the visual quality so much better, I gave it to him so he wouldn't feel so bad about the purchase.
You should just wait until the actual DVD comes out if you really want one - it will probably have extras and you won't have to pay such a ridiculous price for it...
Best,
Bryan

Mike, there's alot of this going on at ebay.
I have a replaytv unit and even that doesn't give a great feed. I can download from my replay to my computer and burn the movie from there onto a dvd-r. More than likely this is what he did or for that matter, taped it with a vcr then used a capture card to get it into the computer. Edited it there then burned.
Sucks.

I'm sure it is - but, is has been going on around eBay for years. My guess is that the only reason that eBay doesn't do anything about it is that they make money from the sellers - that's their bread and butter (not defending it). I imagine that if someone from Universal or another studio wanted to step in, they would do so. Given that the mini hasn't been officially released on DVD, the loophole might be that nobody has been copying and selling a duplicate of retail items and purporting them to be the real thing.
That's my guess...

I have some curious news from the UK for you.
Over the past few weeks, one online retailer - https://www.play.com/ - has been advertising the 2003 mini DVD as due for release on March 1, 2004 (TOMORROW! )
I thought it as something of a fluke, as it wasn't listed on https://www.amazon.co.uk/, but I have just checked there - and lo and behold - it is, with an Amazon sales ranking of 221 - https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...744673-1243647 - at the cheep cheap price of £9.74 (25% discount from RRP of £12.99 - that's approx $24.00 discounted to $18.00 using https://www.xe.com/)
A note to add - there is no record of an age rating on the BBFC website yet - https://www.bbfc.co.uk/ so this news probably should be taken with a 'pinch of salt' - but pictures I have seen of sleeves rate it at a '15' certificate.
If it is true though, it looks like we'll get the DVD before you do, but... maybe.... is it someting to boast about?

Keep in mind that this is Region 2, not 1. I just got a Region 2/4 version from the galactica2003.net website linked to blackstar.co.uk. All-region players are your friend!

If Amazon UK are selling through incorrect info, then that is their problem - there is seemingly no definitive BBFC classification for it yet! (Blackstar's sleeve depicts the mini as a '12' certificate...Play.com are listing it as 'out of stock'). I did go to my local music store today to check it out.... but there was no trace. (I doubt I'll even buy the thing if I do see it, re my other post on the subject.)
Perhaps Universal have slipped up once again? That's nothing new......
Confused,
Ian W359

Okay.... the shops were a week late (well, the one I went to anyway), the *region 2 & 4* UK DVD is out on the shelves, rated 12 ("Contains moderate violence and sex").
Curiously the DVD carries a sticker on the front declaring something along the lines of "new mini series" (so people won't be confused, I guess...), but also, there appears to be no special features on the disc from what I read on the sleeve, apart from subtitles - but what kind of features would be considered?
Strange that the UK should get something of a rush-release of the mini, less than a month after it's TV premiere, yet you guys in the US and elsewhere (I hear Australia gets the DVD in April) are kept waiting... Any thoughts on the matter?
All the best,
Ian W359
