Must Vipers stay vipers?
Just out of curiosity, how many people believe that the Galactica and Viper and other models should stay the same in a new Galactica production?

The vipers are the coolest looking ships ever created in any sci-fi production.

Same old designs please. Hell if it were up to me i'll have alot of variations of the "Starhound Design" not only the classic designs but the "Scarlet Vipers" and the "Duet" and "Azure-class" Vipers from Richard Hatch's novels. Frazetta and McQuarrie did art concepts for Galactica and the Vipers and i'll reference there design works as well.
They should stay the same, with new stylish upgrades along side the older models! Go to any airfield and you will see alot of old planes either in service or used for air shows but they are still used. Mainly because they are classics they never grow old!!! Same analogy can be applyed to the new Galactica series keep as many of the old elements The Galactica, Pegasus models and Vipers.
If Moore were a hardcore fan i hope he would use some of the fans designs concepts of Battlestars and Vipers used in fan movies/clips! Would be good to reference them in the pilot as a sly nod to the fanbase. Lets hope and pray they don't CGI everything, models filmed correctly still add more realism and look alot better than too much CGI fest TV these days. would like to see different military ships Battlestars of various sizes and escort ships, freighters, even the famed "COLONIAL BOMBERS" that would have appeared had "The Beta Pirates" Two parter episode been filmed?
Above all the CLASSIC DESIGNS!

Tip: Some ships appear to stay the same... some don't, including the titular one. And there aren't Cobras, but there is another type of fighter introduced alongside the Vipers.

Saw them thanks. Very interesting designs would be very good to see in a new series or fan made BG movie. Too bad Moore got a hearing problem this is what we like about Galactica, not a do over?

Vital
While adding more ship designs would be okay, keep the Galactica and Vipers.
If the only similarities will be call signs and a "brief" glimpse of old designs, just call the show something else.
Considering the horny colonials and "seductive?" cylons anyone else think Moore should writing for Lex instead?

How about provided some insights on what specific updates would be "cool"?
No offense, but you're coming across as "me, too" in some posts. It would help to engender further discussions if more details or reasons could be provided.
Thanks,
Michael

Well Michael, on updating the designs, I would make them more aerodynamic. I would get rid of the air intake on the nose and make it pointed. Maybe thin out the design to a thinner profile like the F-22 Raptor.

I dunno
I think the designs are classic and you you don't frell with classics.
As for the uniforms... only BSG could make brown suede cool, so how can you improve on that?

Then lets keep track of all these Vipers
Starhound Viper: Series
Scarlet class Viper: Hatch novels
Duet class Viper: Hatch novels
Azure class Viper: Hatch novels
Cobra class Vipers: Fandom
Colonial Bomber : Unproduced Battlestar Galactica script
Anymore to add to the list.

In a continuation, keep them the same and add one or more of the new versions discussed. The Galactica should be the same.
In a "future" (+200-300 yahrens) continuation, a modified or even new Galactica would acceptable. A new fighter reminiscent of the Viper, but more manueverable and with more weapons (missles, mines, "chaff", as well as turbo lasers) might have replaced the original. In addition, electronic shielding may have been developed, though we're probably getting too close to Star Trek/Star Wars with that one. Models of the original Vipers (similar to the models we've seen in the Captain's Ready Room in the Star Trek shows) might be on display somewhere in the ship.
In a Ron Moore "reimagined remake"...well, since it's not going to look like Battlestar Galactica anyway, and since he's not going to listen to any of the fans suggestions, I'll save my time.
