This is one that i'll be more than happy to answer.
First off if *i* were in charge i would do exactly what the present game people have done, go to a prequel and tell the *back* story of Galactica. BUT keep the original premis, names, dates and events on par with the TOS. Meaning that exactly, no changing of names or redesigns of ships and, ahem, genetalia.
As far as the prequel i might not move very far into the past before the destruction of the colonies. You could tell how the Colonial Fleet has fought valiantly over the last 5 years and how they nearly defeated the Cylon empire only to be decieved by one of there own. Bring the people up to speed as to how and why Baltar betrayed his own people. How it was not only Balter but others as well and he was fortunate to escape with his life. You could include such back stories as the Battle of Molecay and the destruction of the fifth fleet all except the Battlestar Pegasus. Make the game on the line of what the actual Wing Commander game was based on, a story driven arc that played extremely well with me as far as a game goes. To bad Moyer hacked the movie up. But that's another story all together.
As a game producer you would have the luxury of going back and designing ships though that were never seen but meshed well with the Galactica universe. The support ships and stations throughout the colonies could help tell the very story that was missing from the pilot. BUT then again your talking a huge undertaking that i'd be more than happy to help with.
In the broader picture it seems that this type of game would playo out extremely well but for some reason hollywood always seems to be bent on changing it's own history rather than *fixing* it and expanding on it. It's truely remarkable that NO ONE can see this. Why it goes on is beyond me. But i will tell you one thing, for all that's bad with the new mini that's coming out the game people gave us something to look forward to.
