Happy 40th!
Today marks the 40th anniversary of the September 17, 1978 debut of "Saga of a Star World."
Did you see it "live" on ABC? I sure did.
Hopefully we'll see lots of activity today on the forum!

Re: Happy 40th!
I did, and I remember it quite well. I was impressed, and even my mom liked it!
Whatever happened to good TV???????

Re: Happy 40th!
I saw it "live" as well. It left an indelible impact and impression on this Sci-Fi afficionado. Approximately 40 years to the exact time that this amazing show first aired.
( ... YIKES!!! Now I really DO feel old... )
I also appreciate and thank Darrell (and others) for resurrecting Fleets again in time for this most auspicious occasion. Words could not adequately describe the joy and surprise when I was able to access something I thought was forever lost.
I shall raise a chalice in honor of the show, the cast & crew and, most important of all, to the wonderful people that were brought together at sites like this to revel and reminisce in the show they share a common love for.
Since joining Fleets, I have met some truly awesome friends. Some I have actually met in person but most I have met only through Fleets. Truly a unique and wonderful group here. We all come from different backgrounds and different interests, yet we all share a common thread. A love for a television show that touched us all in a rather profound way. Pretty amazing.
Battlestar Galactica... it survives.

Wonderful words, Steve!!
I also saw Saga, as it aired on September 17, 1978. There were about 40 of us watching it, in the dorm TV room. It was during my freshman year in college at WVU.
Yeah, that does seem like a lifetime ago but, the old girl DOES survive.
Happy Anniversary, Battlestar Galactica!!

Re: Happy 40th!
I saw the first hour of it on the night it debuted and it did bowl me over but I was committed to switching to NBC for the conclusion of "King Kong" (which aired in two parts). And then I didn't get to see the finish of that when we had the news interruption for the Camp David announcement! I think it was with Part 2 of LPOTG that I got dialed into the habit. And it helped that the Fotonovel and the books aimed at children about the series got me up to speed even though I'd missed the end of Saga.

Re: Happy 40th!
Yup, I was ten years old on Sep. 17th, 1978 and still remember sitting in the living room waiting for that short intro they did! "Prepare yourself for Battlestar Galactica!" Sent shudders down my spine...and that was today!!! Ha!!
Can't believe it's been 40 years and BSG was all but lost to me throughout the 1980s, but in 1993, I found a BSG VHS tape at a video store and I bought it. From that, the interest peaked again until I saw that Richard Hatch had put out his new continuation novel around 1998 and when SciFi Channel started airing it in January 1998, that was it! I was hooked again!
