So, there's going to be a movie: fantasy casting
The movie is slated for 2011 and that's a fast-track schedule for any sci-fi epic. Meantime, if this takes a typical development track, there won't be much news about any aspects of the film until its actually getting ready to film or hit post-production.
I'm proposing some things, just to keep our interest and discussion started. All the writers despairing about BSG returning to her roots or being remade gets a little annoying. It's quite possibly the best opportunity that the original has to shine since the fall of 2001.
For the sake of this thread: Assume the reimagining is to return to the original pilot (what we usually call a remake) and tell it even better, possibly dropping the Carillon subplot.
SO: Based on the original characters, suggest your fantasy cast members. There are no right or wrong answers: only a huge pool of possibilities. You can make many suggestions for the same role, if you wish.
I'm stealing my first idea from someone at TOK: Hugh Laurie as Baltar. I think he'd have a blast with the part.

Chris Larkin as Baltar. He pulled off a good Hermann Goering in Hitler, the Rise of Evil. If he could be so miscast for that part, and still make it believable, then he can pull off Baltar.

I don't know exactly but Hatch, Benedict and Jeffereson in particular in some roles. Maybe Benedict as Starbuck's father, kind of a con-man like character like Chameleon in The Man With Nine Lives
Hatch as Adama...?
And for some reason...Kate Beckinsale as Athena.

Hermann Goering was SCARY good in that part!
I'd love to see Nathan Fillion in the film in any capacity. I think he can only make it better. Of course I'm still holding out hope for a continuation so I think he would make a good addition to a new character.
Oh and Kate Beckinsale can play anyone she wants as long as she puts on a Colonial Uniform!!!

2nd that on Nathan "I aim to misbehave" Fillion.
Somehow, I can see him as Cain.
For Adama, I mentioned (somewhere) Ian McKellen
For Baltar, I don't know. I keep thinking about someone in the mold of Michael Ironside, though.
(Since I still have my mind set on a next-generation continuation, I'd like to see as many original series actors reprise their roles ... it's just the next gen that I'm having trouble with.)

An idea or image rather struck earlier: Willem Dafoe as Baltar.
Or maybe a member of the Quorum quite anti-Adama.
