Re: New Moon Props
It looks like a lot of that stuff is recast from Wilco models and a few other places. I've been trying to get my hands on a languatron that wouldn't break the bank for a while now!

Re: New Moon Props
Most of the of the props offered there are recasts, and honestly not very good ones either. You'd be better off watchign ebay for Wilco Models laser. I've ordered various things from New Moon, and it's very hit or miss. The cubits are very good (will be ordering more of the resin ones soon, but they are finished) the kits come with air holes, need alot of clean up and sometimes the molds were not lined up right.
Monolith, have you had any luck contacting Wilco models at all? if not, let me know and I'll see what I can do for you. I love the languatron they are offing.

Re: New Moon Props
Still no work from Wilco but I haven't tried since December. Any help would be awesome! I'd like to get a languatron. Are they offering any thing else Galactica related? A communicator would be cool!

Re: New Moon Props
I'd love a communicator myself lol
What Wilco is offering right now, as of the last time I talked to them, was the Laser pistol, Recharge cylinders and the Languatron.
A helmet kit was in the works. but not complete yet. When they finish the helmet kit, I'm betting most of it will be vacume formed plastic, unlike most of the kits I've seen which have been resin and fiberglass. This will keep the price down, but make some of the details softer Most definately a costuming piece rather then a display piece.
I have one of their X-Wing pilot helmets. Also Vac Formed plastic, but it takes alot of beating when you wear it to alot of events.
I'll drop Bill an email, see what I can do for you man.

Re: New Moon Props
I'm in for a languatron and some recharge cylinders! Maybe we should start another interest thread. These kits might be something good to go in the CF store!

Re: New Moon Props
How much are they going to charge for a helmet kit when they get it done? I'm very interested in one.

I don't even have my uniform sewn yet, so I'm in no hurry. When they do finish, you'll have to put together a group order again.

Not a problem, since I'm definately going to get at least one helmet maybe 2 lol, might have to create a custom one.
I'm hoping for a Pegasus option.

Re: New Moon Props
Maybe you can "put a bug in their ear" about the gathering interest in their upcoming helmet kit and it'll help boost them toward getting it finished!

Re: New Moon Props
There is a source for a fiberglass helmet kit right now if anyone is interested. Not sure if they would want me to post any info right now but I'll ask. I just e-mailed them about a group order and possible discount (thanks for the great idea Reaper!) I know the kit normally runs about $250.00.
The vacu-formed kit would definitely be cheaper and I want one! The detail on the Fiberglass kits is pretty cool though.

Re: New Moon Props
I'm digging this sudden swell of interest in costuming. Its always been there but I've never really seen it focused here where with its home crowd! At least a lot of the info will be here for the fans. Its taken years to pull all this information together!

Re: New Moon Props
To add to the resources, one of our own offers resin casts of the Calculators needed to make the flight computers (the leg boards computers)
Gordon - Spcglider Has both the preproduction models and the ones seen in the series. I have a set of both, and just need a pilot's leg board to start putting it together.

Re: New Moon Props
I'm in need of the leg board as well. My calculators are still unpainted. I need to remedy that!

Re: New Moon Props
I'm pretty sure this is the model we will need
https://www.sportys.com/acb/showdetl....1475&CATID=168
We will also need a "tray" for the Calculators to sit in. I'm thinking of just using some ply wood to add the details, along with more Fake LEGS like The Languatron. It might get the flight computer done faster lol.
and yes, my Calculators are still unpainted as well.

Re: New Moon Props
Thanks for that! I know someone did a vacu formed tray for the calculators a while back. Wish I could remember who. That would certainly make life a little easier.

Re: New Moon Props
it was someone on ASAP, I don't remember his current Screen name, but I did contact him about June last year. All his molds and stuff were all in storage and he doesn't know when or if he'd be able to do more stuff. He had more then just the trays I believe. I know he had the Andromeda Force Lances, and Some more Andromeda props I was interested in.
what we need is someone to do a Communicator. lol

Honestly, for a helmet as complex as this one, I think $100 is very optimistic. even if vac molded. The way I've been thinking this out, you would need at least a 5 part shell. Right and left halves of the outer helmet. Then a 3 part inner shell. This way you create a hollow shell of the actual helmet. This would include the lower "jaw piece" Then, you have the clear parts that you could run the lights in. you would need 2 different sized ones. Then you have the helmet details, like the ear pieces and the mouth piece. Finally you have the crest. Generally speaking, the crest would have to be a solid piece of resin, and that alone will take alot of resin.
The result would need some sort of reinforcement in the hollow shell, cause the crest would be HEAVY! What I've done with my Vac formed X-Wing helmets is use the expanding foam insultation. This would fill up the empty shell nicely, but you'd have to create something in the shell to access any electronics you put in.
Honestly, I think $125 would be a steal on a helmet. Teh cost of the Fiberglass ones is actually very good for what you get.

Re: New Moon Props
The headset would be cool as a replacement for wearing a helmet around a con. The helmet has sort of become the ultimate finishing piece in my mind. Weren't the old Marco helmets vacu formed? I know they had their inaccuracies but I was wondering how sturdy they were.
I'm sure with a bit of creativity and ingenuity once could cobble something together in the $100.00 dollar range. There is always a build up of the Daggit Squadron bucket on a motorcycle helmet. I know Gordon did a run of them at one point, don't know if he has any plans to do another. Even those were a bit pricier than $100.00, however you get some of Gordon's top notch work!

If someone can do this I'm sure they could give the Viper helmet the same treatment.
By the way...HOLY SMOKE!

Re: New Moon Props
ok, that is impressive!!!
We'll definately have to get gordon involved cause his stuff just ROCKS!!!!
Whent he SAquadron is up and running, that opens the door for custom merchandise, Warrior's Grog mugs with a new squadron symbol on it, patches, a new helmet emblem
specking of which, I wonder if someone could do a Pegasus emblem for a Warriors mug lol, it would rock next to my Galactica mug!

Re: New Moon Props
That paper Cylon helmet is impressive, but I've actually seen better work on a Boba Fett helmet in cardboard. When the guy had it finished, you'd never be able to tell it wasn't vacuformed or fiberglass...it was NICE. I can't remember the exact location, but it was on the Dented Helmet forum.
