Hey folks

Im a newbie here so I just thought I'd make myself known.

My name is Roddy Macfarlane, im 18 and I hail from Scotland and im currently (not) studying English and Philosophy at Aberdeen university.

I found this site a while back whilst trawling the net for pictures of the MkII (yeah, I know thats unbelievably sad

) and, after finding it again the other day, decided to join (thanks to Dawg for the admin stuff).

I think I first saw Battlestar Galactica (the original movie) when I was about 5 or 6, and immediately fell in love with the vehicle designs in it (which back then, when everything should be dart shaped and have go faster stripes, blew Star Wars out of the water). Then, a couple years back, I got a subscription to Empire magazine and it came with a free copy of BSG (ultimate win). I watched it through, loved it like I was 5 again, and then read the book (not enough special effects...)

Now, from what I have read on the board so far, I may have some issues with the next bit...

When I heard they were remaking BSG, I was initially worried that it would be the mother of all Frak ups... however, I LOVE everything about the new series... I love the realism, the gritty attitude, the effects, the acting, the storyline and I especially love the new ship designs. For me the new Viper MkII is just about the sexiest thing on the planet that isnt female, and whilst I love the old MkII dearly, I had always thought that it looked just a little bit awkward and cumbersome. The new one on the other hand, to me, looks perfect. Its just so sleek, and it looks a lot more combat worthy than the old design (I guess thats the hormonal teenager in my talking lol) and it looks more like a "proper" aircraft too. I also like how they replaced the lasers with autocannons, I thought that was a nice touch.

So, I have read the rules and I know you guys dont like talking too much about the new series, so I apologise for anything in advance, and I will keep my TNS fetish firmly shut up. As I understand it, you had a lot of feuding between original fans and new fans, and I was both dissapointed and sorry to hear about that- and I assure you that I am not here to pick a fight lol.

So, why am I here? Well,first off, you guys seem a lot more passionate about all things BSG than anywhere I else I have seen, and secondly, I actually have not seen a lot of nor know very much about the original series of BSG, and this seems to be the best place to find out about it.

Well welcome aboard Roddy .. we just don't discuss the new show .. but the old one ..share your memory's or ideas about it

Hi! backatcha, Takedown..
I think your last bit summed us up pretty good: passionate about BSG and a good place to connect with all things TOS.

We have a long slow burn for the concepts in the original series, and a lot of creative people who have taken it in a zillion different directions. Some fall close to the 'ole oak and others are only just within sight, but I'm sure you'll find more than enough stuff to keep you out of the English & Philosophy texts propping up the leg of the desk your computer is sitting on..
