The Bridges of Toko-BSG
The Bridges of Toko-Ri was a story about the futility and disappointment life often offers us. Is it futile to voice your beliefs in a free society when the odds are stacked against you? Are we destined for disappointment whether we speak out or not? We have been pleading for a continuation for so many years now. That failing in the short term, we offered to support almost unanimously a prequel given that it does not undo the beloved BSG universe. We are speaking! Is anyone listening?
Please do not go down this path of reimagining. Please do not undo 25 years of magic. If it fails, and we the many believe it will, what direction will be left for the producers to take that hasn't been untimely closed?
If you're not going to cross the bridge, please at least do not burn it so no one else can either.
Sincerely and respectfully,
Muffit

dvo47p a literary critic?
In The Bridges at Toko-ri, James Michener describes the one unknown horror of war, is the protagonist wasting his life?
He tells of a reserve Naval Aviator in the Korean War, plucked from his peacetime family and job. His wife visits him during leave in Japan and tells the pilot no one cares about the war in the United States. The Aviator has doubts about a war that is little known about at post WWII America, is his sacrifice worth his life?

"Please do not go down this path of reimagining. Please do not undo 25 years of magic."
Impossible. Even if nothing else is ever done, it *can't* be undone, as long as anyone remembers it well.
"If it fails, and we the many believe it will, what direction will be left for the producers to take that hasn't been untimely closed?"
If a new production falsely alluding to connection with the BSG story fails, good riddance. I do not, however, believe all the propoganda stating that if this fails, then we will have destroyed our only chance for a slim hope of getting the show done the way we want.
The main obstacle to a proper continuation is the firm control Universal has over all rights to the show. If instead of focusing on fighting this remake, the fans focus on getting Universal to relinqiush the rights to BSG (I am not going to designate it as the 'old' BSG, that implies that there is a new one, which there patently is *not*,) then it is possible that progress can be made. I would not, however, count on Hammer, SciFi and Moore for anything. However, if their effort fails and they decide that there is no direction open to them, this may give them incentive to step out of the way for someone who will rise to the challenge. Any desire they may have to bury the property out of spite will certainly be tempered by money, especially now that the future of Universal is so uncertain.
