Cool BSG: The beginning of the End - WIP and Musings

Let me start by stating that I won't post my fanfic here... because it isn't written in English

I've been writing it since 1999 and it's almost 200 pages long (and growing) - right now I can't translate it to English. I plan to write 4 or 5 books  .

Book One is finished (with 10 Chapters and roughly 120 pages) and Book Two is being written... I think I will need another five years to finish everything

By now, anyone reading this post must be thinking: "So, if he isn't posting the fanfic, why is he making the post?"

Well...I'm doing it because there are a lot of good writers here and I want the opportunity to learn with them. I want to have a meaningful discussion with other fans about my ideas for the fanfiction and so on...

I'm not a very good writer, never was, never will... In the beggining I was suffering from the "Marty Stu Syndrome". I was creating truckloads of characters based on me, my friends and relatives... but fortunately I realized my mistake in time

The premisses of Book One are:

- Two years after the events in "The Hand of God", the Fleet arrives at Human Space. It's been a rough voyage (even though the Cylons haven't attacked the fleet in that time) and after an accident that left Commander Adama in a coma, Athena injured and Boxey dead, there's a coup attempt by some Quorum members backed by Security forces. They think it's time for the civilian power to command the Fleet.

-The coup is defeated by the Warriors with the help of a Quorum member who is also the leader of a cult called "The Sons of Space" that defends that the future of the Fleet is to keep going past Earth and the other Humans. The cult defends that it's possible to have a civilization tottaly space-born (think about the so-called "Generation Ships")

- A lone Baseship appears, just as the coup is thwarted and the Fleet is still in turmoil, and attacks. The Baseship is an old model, without FTL comunications capability and commanded by a Gold Centurion. It's mission is simply to guard the borders of that forgotten part of the Cylon Empire. The main efforts of the Cylon fleets for finding the Galactica are somewhere else

- The Human Navy appears during the battle between the Cylons and the Fleet and to the Colonial's dismay, it's no match for the Cylons (it's the 23rd Century in Earth terms). The situation only changes when a Navy Carrier appears (altough it's still inferior to a Battlestar or Baseship it uses his rail guns to destroy the Cylon ship)

- First Contact is initiated between Humans from Earth and the Colonials.

And with this, I rest my case! I'll write another post, with some more musings about the fanfiction. Sorry if my English isn't very good, but it's been ages since I've written in this language

Your English is fine. Looking forward to more synopsis of your stories.

Default More Musings

So...let's head out to Book Two

- One year after the First Contact, the Colonials have settled in one of the planets in Human Space. They called the planet "Eden"

- Apollo is the Commander of the Galactica, because Adama is still recovering from his injuries and decided to help the Humans in the search of remains of the 13th Tribe. His search is centered in Pluto (where the Navy found a buried ship) and in Mars - Cydonia to be more precise. There are also some remains on the Moon and in Egypt

- Starbuck left Colonial Service and married Cassie. They opened a big bar/casino/restaurant called "The Pyramid" in Eden and have a newly-born daughter called Palias. Starbuck also owns a brand of fumarellos called "Colonials". He employs many ex-Warriors that were injured in the line of duty. He's constantly racked by nightmares where he sees himself being killed in combat with a unknown type of Cylon Raider...

- Boomer is the Military Governor of Eden and the resposible for the rearming of the Fleet. In Eden's moon, Calisto, there are now several shipyards with new Battlestars being constructed. The first one will be named Kobol (spoiler - and it will be Commanded by Coronel Tigh - damm time!!).
There's also a new Viper being created (I'm using the Crimson Viper for this one) and Boomer wants to convince Starbuck to be it's test pilot, even if he's not in active service anymore.
When thinking about it, Starbuck realizes that the Crimson Viper is the ship he's flying in his nightmares! Can his nightmares be a vision of the future? (hint, hint)

- Athena is the Head of the Quorum and has left the Colonial Service. She's in love with Sire Digor (the head of the cult that I talked about in Book One), a relationship that's not welcomed by her brother. She's a strong leader in a Quorum left weak by the culling of the troublemakers after the coup attempt.

- Iblis reappears (he's the responsible for the disaster in Book One - the one that killed Boxey, etc...) and he brought some friends (I'll explain it later)

- A Cylon task force, led by Lucifer and with state-of-the-art BaseShips, enters Human controled space, looking for the Baseship that disapeared in Book One. That Baseship sent out a sublight SOS before being destroyed, but the message only reached a Cylon outpost one year after the battle...

- One of Iblis cohorts - Lilith - kidnaps Sheba and Starbuck and leads them to another Human colony where she shows them the corpse of a crewmember of the Pegasus. She hints to Sheba that the Human Navy knows the whereabouts of her father's Battlestar.
In fact, using necromancy, she makes the corpse reveal what happened after the events of "The Living Legend". After firing against the Baseships, Commander Cain ordered the Pegasus to ligthspeed and due to a malfunction, the Battlestar "ripped" into hyperspace where it was lost for some time (and where it detected 2 proto-Battlestars - the Hermes and the Argus, two ghostships, lost when the Colonies were developing the Lightspeed engines). After breaking out of hyperspace (in a location uncharted in Colonial Navigational Databases), the Pegasus is severely damaged and scuttled. Her survivors were picked by Human forces and the Battlestar was "towed" to a unknown location. But take in mind that this story was told by a corpse, "animated" by sorcery

- During their kidnap by Lilith, Starbuck is startled when the body of the Pegasus crewmember talks with him using the voice of Boxey...saying that "he shouldn't be afraid of what the future holds".

- Apollo his still troubled by his "son's" death in Book One and it appears that Boxey is trying to communicate with him- basically, Apollo is "seeing dead people"
His relationship with Sheba is going down the drain because she realizes he never left the "ghost" of Serina behind and never will. He loves Sheba, but doesn't want to express that feeling openly because he can't shake the feeling he'll loose her, just like he lost Serina...

- The Cylon task force starts to attack several Human planets... and I'm still writing it

Next post, I'll talk about some of my plans for the future of the story, the "weak links" in my work, different approaches to the BSG cannon that I'm taking, that sort of thing!

And I'm open to questions!

Big Grin

This thread made me do a extrme bumping of my own thread, lol

Thanks to everyone involved in that discussion (and the forum in general) I'm regaining my will to write

So...before going back to my Books (heheheh) here are some ramblings about the canon of my fanfiction. It's different from the original BSG canon:

1) For starters, Iblis isn't a dark God/demon... He's a traveller from another dimension - a dimension where magic is more advanced that in our one. His ship crashed into our dimension millennia ago, due to the meddling of the Ships of Light. Since then he has a huge grudge against Humankind, because he knows that we are protected by the Ships (Humans are the only race that can trascend to that level -through death or not).

His struggle against Mankind has taken many paths - but I'll get to that point later. He's aided by 2 survivors now know as Lilith and Satan - from the crash landing of his ship. They are the true source of evil in Earth and in the Colonies.

The only forces that can check their actions are the forces of the Ships of Light. But they can't take no active action against Iblis and his cohorts - they are a bit like the race of the Watchers in the Marvel Universe comic books. They watch but only act in cases of extreme need. They take this stance because they know that they've brought evil to our dimension - my meddling where they shouldn't.

Iblis and his companions are only Human in appearence 'cause their bodies have been warped beyond human form by the use of dark magic. All of their servants (even the Human ones) will slowly turn into grotesque monsters merely by being in their presence (it doesn't pay to be a dark magician servant, )

Don't ask why I did this transformation of Iblis... I can't explain it. But I think I made him a stronger character and still very misterious. And this way, he has a good reason to hate Humans...

And that's all for now. More ramblings tomorrow!

P.S.- Comments are welcome, and please remember that English isn't my native tongue

I can talk about my fanfiction and share my ideas with everyone

The only problem with you guys reading the actual fanfiction is one: it's in Portuguese, not English. And to be honest, I don't have the time to translate 200 pages

Glad you liked it I'm a sucker for ghost stories and I really love the "Flying Dutchman" story. So...I combined the two...and voilá: the Hermes and the Argus were born. The second name is my little nod to great anime series - Starblazers

And here's my second rambling, this time about Battlestars and such

- First of all, I've used in my fiction other types of Colonial ships. After finding Earth and her allies, the Colonial Service starts to build ships of several types: AssaultStar, WarStars, Destroyers, etc... That idea gave me the opportunity to do 2 things: use all those cool Colonial warships designs that pop around on the net and (must important), dispel the idea that the Colonials only used Battlestars in their battlegroups (or whatever you want to call them).

Five year ago I made a post in the BSG mailing list that turned to be a important piece of my fanfiction's canon... This is my mail:

Vipers? The production of Vipers should have been almost non-stop to cope up
with the losses of the war. What happened with all that equipment and ships?
During the Battle of Stalingrad in WW2, there were Russian tank factories
where the workers fought with the tanks that where in the last stage of
construction. Could something similar occur in the Colonys? Technicians and
Warriors fighting in Vipers that weren't even finished, against the Cylons.
Loading all the support ships with essential equipment and hiding then.
Could some of these ships have escaped and formed some sort of Fleet, but
without civilians? What would they do? This could be a great start for a new
fanfiction
I used this in my fanfiction. In Book 3, the Colonials and Earth send a hyperspace probe to the location of the Colonies... and discover that in someplaces there's still life...Deep underground bunkers and Command instalations that weren't tottaly destroyed and where remains of the civilian population live, in fear of the Cylons, ruled by those Warriors who stayed behind - a sort of post-apocalypthic world.

And the remains of the Colonies are guarded by a makeshift Fleet of refurbished Battlestars/Warstars/whatever (including the famous - "Half-a-Star", a Battlestar that was being constructed - it only has a landing bay ) and various types of Vipers (prototypes, old models- all the ones that could fly and that survived the Cylon attack).

The Cylons attacked the Colonies, bombed the planets from orbit and landed ground troops and them left, never checking them again - that's my version. They wad other problems...

What do you guys think?

Battlestar Argo. Will the Commander's name be Jason, or Wildstar?
