Yes, I did notice the huge ship. They touched on the subject in the pre-show. Stating that they wanted it to be known that they were there for many years. I am not sure though if the ship is operational. Doesn't sound to much like it is. The little ships did look like the peacekeepers....

I hear this kind of observation often as various sf shows and movies are compared.
The notion that ships have similar design features, often implying a lack of originality in the design is mentioned. And it is often a fair critique.
But, in terms of atmospheric ships, is it unreasonable for them to look fundamentally similar?

I finally got to see it and I liked it! Too intense for me sometimes LOL! I'm a wimp! I wasn't sure if those I wanted to live where going to be ok and that makes me nervous
I'm not overly crazy about the wraiths but then villains are never nasty enough for me! I really like to hate them and fear them.
But it's off to a good beginning in my book and has a lot of potential as some of you have done a good job elaborating on.
I liked the characters.
I liked that last few lines as well between the two guys (sorry don't recall their names) "How come I never make friends like that"
"You need to get out more"
"Where in another galaxy how much more out can you get?"
That was funny; I like that kind of humour.
The last line spoken by the Major definitely tells us what to expect
"You do realize I could get us into all sorts of trouble...right?"

I just love it, and really looking forward to see more. I really enjoyed the goauld's and is really sad that we don't see this two races face to face at some time. But I understand that they have to do it to give Atlantis its own place and its own fans etc. As for the wraith, I have to get use to them, after seeing the goauld's and like them it is difficult not to compare the two. But I have to say that is going to be interesting to see more background of them, etc. I really enjoy their looks. Very scary.
Also love how the puddle jumper and the wraiths ships come from the stargate. And what about the stargate in space for the wraith world. Pretty neat. Also love the Atlantis city, it was awesome.
I'm really looking forward to see more of it, more Stargate don't hurt.

thought you guys might like to hear if you haven't all ready...the " two-hour premiere episode drew 4.2 million viewers, which made it the highest-rated and most-watched episode of any series that has ever aired on SCI FI."

3-4 times higher than the average SG:1 ratings a few months back.
I suppose it will drop off a bit, as not everyone will like it.

Rowan -
That's good to hear.....! I know I liked it better than the BSG mini, anyway. It may, or may not drop off a bit - a drop off is kind of normal, though. Since Skiffy is showing SG-1 and Atlantis back-to-back every Friday, that night should be a strong one for them (at least as far as a cable network can expect).
Thanks for the news!
Bryan

wasn't the second night of the BG miniseries higher?
They said highest SERIES on scifi. To be honest... the only real competition for that is Stargate. Nothing else on Scifi really has been that great except Farscape. But then Farscape and everything else didn't appeal to as broad an audience as Stargate.
Now... if only we can get TITON to watch an episode of it. That would be a milestone for this franchise.

I think it did better than RM's BSG second night, I seem to recall that it got a 3.8 rating.
They are arbitrarily designating "miniseries" and "series" though.

If I remember right... the BG miniseries got a 3.-something one the first night, then got a 4.-something on night two.
Could be wrong though...I'm aging fast.

It wasn't bad, tons of action. What is a Pegasus Platform? Almost fell of the chair hearing that one. Thomas I remember the movie Lifeforce. Mathilda May ran around in her birthday suit for most of it and there was an unknown actor by the name of Patrick Stewart in it. The saddest part of Atlantis was the death of Robert Patrick's character.

I was so shocked to see that one I figured him to be a regular too.... and I wasn't looking forward to him, Weir and Shepard butting heads all the time. McKay is more fun to butt heads with. He is turning out to be cooler on this show....

I could have easily seen Richard Hatch on the new show as the leader of the team. Who better then somebody who has been in deep space.

I agree with you!
And McCay definitely is more interesting now. It must be cause Weir is a (beautiful) brunette. And McCay well... he just doesn't do so well around blondes! He was so bad around Sam that I wanted to feed him a lemon!!!!
(remember, he's suppose to get violently ill with citris food)

Maybe she looked too much like Sam and people complained/got confused?
