My mother's poem
My mother carried this poem in her wallet for years, and I've always thought of it as a wonderful life philosophy. I recently came across it, and thought I'd share.
WARNING
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I wear purple too! and sometimes with red clothing!
seriously that reminds me of something that my mother said she is going to read at my reception. I saw a rough draft of it and cried.

The Ladies With Red Hats Club is getting quite popular in New Hampshire. My grandmother and her friends are starting one up in our town and she already has a couple of hats ready for the meetings.

There are stores down here in Florida that have whole sections of clothing and hats for Red Hat Society members. I'm not a member yet, but I've thought about it.
