Default Regarding the DVD Set

I know many of you have never worked a direct relationship with a video distributor such as Ingram Entertainment which is why many of you ask about info on the DVD set. This is pretty easy to explain if you follow what really goes on.

Vincent Debernardi, a.k.a. scifiman76, works for Ingram Entertainment, the largest distributor of videos, DVDs, and video games in the North American market. He is one of Ingram's key account executives and my rep for video game products for the company I work for which exports these products to the U.K., the Netherlands, Hong Kong, and Saudi Arabia. Vince is the most knowledgable person I have ever dealt with when it comes to video games and DVD releases.

Since Vince works for the largest distributor in the North American market, Vince has direct access to the video reps. He gets the news about a release well before a dvdtidbits or whoever gets it. What Ingram does with this is estimate how many units they think they can actually sell by asking their key customers. They turn this information back into the video reps along with other distributors numbers and come up with an estimated build.

For whatever reason, Universal Studios felt that 100K Battlestar Galactica sets would be an adequate number for the market. When Universal Studios is ready to accept pre-books is when the rumors start to come out about these DVDs. Soon you will see them on retail following those rumors. The rumors help to feed sales which is why it is leaked on purpose.

Anyways, I have some good news about this. Because of my personal relationship with Vince Debernardi as my account rep, he has assured me that he can get me at least a 100pcs of the box set. Some of these will be for my company's international customers, while others will be earmarked for Milton who wants to buy 25 of them off the bat and offer them to his quadry for $79-$89(this depends on the cost since that has not been determined by distribution yet) instead of the $99 SRP. If any of the admins are interested in reserving some for the fans here, I have no problem with that.

I know this group is a tough group to convince, so I will leave you with a couple of my customer references just in case you want to verify that I do deal in exporting Ingram's goods overseas. Both them know Vince Debernardi by the way.

Sincerely,

Ted Gorospe

Isn't there a way to increase that number? 100K Hell i don't think in North America 3 million units would help matters? imports will get a huge amount of units to ship elsewhere, not to mention those Ebay pirates selling units they would get their hands on, and make fans shell out to buy a boxset.

And would Galactica fans overseas get to enjoy BG on DVD how many units will they get to fight over 20K

Universal better get to know about scale, DVD markets expands all the time 100K in 1997 was big, not now though.

KJ

By the way Apothis nice to see you about drop by alittle more often, get to moderate here even.

Hey KJ,

If you want a Galactica set near cost +VAT, I am sure my customer Mr. Hitchborn can accomodate you. I will let him know you are a friend of mine.

As for the increasing numbers question, I will ask Vince tomorrow. The fact that their media kit actually says 100K gives a good indication they are set on the number. I have seen these media kits change though if the pre-orders are larger than the build.

To be honest imports over here always look out for their customers, thus i know when the sets are out the huge PUSH from fans wanting to get one BG DVD set, will end up with one?

Question is whats going to be on them sets, is my BIG QUESTION alot of DVD's news is always around and shared. So i expect to see the list of details on important sites like Dark horizons, AICN, Cinescape, etc if the sets are coming, they should be discussed on those sites soon?

Even if Universal is using this as a ploy to draw attention to the remake along with BG 25th anniversary any DVD tipbits would be on every major website, DVD magazine to boot. Thanks for the offer man, but i'm waiting and watching every step of this Battlestar DVD thing so unless news comes soon (not even TPTB can hold off this BG DVD thing forever) at the right time. I either expect delays or discontinued announcements to issued in the future.

Hope i'm wrong delays effect everything, i'm still awaiting "The Back To The Future Trilogy V.2 re-issue" which should be out soon (another Universal blunder)

Warrior,

Milton asked me for them the moment he heard they were definitely coming out. He asked me me for them the same time he asked if I would mod his forum. Usually most people don't even take orders till a pre-book is actually announce. Milton is just jumping the gun to make sure his people are taken care of.

BTW Warrior, the offer is good for you as well. Mind you the thing is not scheduled for release till December 2003. Pre-books will probably be up by July 2003. Just let me know since I for one don't want to see Galactica fans price gauged on ebay. 100K seems like such a small number for such a popular show.

The only reason Milton found out where I worked was because one of his original mods, scifiman76, is also my sales rep. Vince can't sell directly to Milton unless he has a resell license so he brought me into the picture. Milton asked if I could mod at the same time because he wanted "balance" in his forum. Go figure?

Default Frankly

If they polute the DVD's with ANYTHING about Moore's Abomination, I won't spend a plug nickle on them.

We've fought too hard, and too long to have Moore's Pornographic Galactica shoved in our faces when we want to watch the Real Galactica.

Add a making of Mooreronstar Eicklactica on the DVD's and ya'll just lost a potential Customer.

Also, since the Game is geared toward the MooreRon crowd, they already lost me as a Customer, and Damn it, with everything else going on I was really hoping to be able to lose myself in the Video Game...

To Hell with Moore, and Everything he touches

Default DVD Update

According to Scifiman there will not be any promo for the new mini on the TOS sets. Also there are plans to release 1980 on DVD. The episodes have been remastered. The exact thread is at https://subspacebbs.com/forums/showth...threadid=16492
