Default Ronald D. Moore Endorses the CFF

Today, Ronald D. Moore joined Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict, Jane Seymour, and Jack Stauffer in officially endorsing the efforts of the Colonial Fan Force.

Mr. Moore also made a financial contribution to the CFF fund.

On behalf of the CFF, I wish to publicly thank Mr. Moore for both his endorsement and his contribution.

I know I haven't posted here in awhile guys, but I think it's great RDM has endorsed CFF.
I have as well.
And I have posted a thread on Sciffy saying that anyone who has started 5 or more threads there (or on a related Galactica site) should contribute to CFF.
I think its a worthwhile effort that every Galactica fan (old & new) should endorse.

I'n not surprised that Moore would do this. He's been demonized alot by us, but its been too out of proportion. he's a creative guy. Give him permission, he's going to do what he thinks is right. I may HEAVILY disagree with him, we all may, but that don't mean his father was Satan.

I'm sure he would be happy to see everyone get what they want.

He's a good person. We may disagree about a tv show, but that has nothing to do with his morality.

Its just a tv. I'm more upset about what I see on CNN.

Just thought you'd like to know, I called RDM's office this evening to let him know how appreciative we are of his support for a continuation movie. Ron's secretary relayed the "thank you" to him.
He did get our message!

Default A Resolution on My Part

I also wanted to say that perhaps I came across too strongly in my opinions towards the mini. I did (and do) like the reimaged version.
But I also wanted to say that TOS was one of my favorite sci-fi shows of all time.
I love the DVD set & the music from it.
I hope by my supporting CFF that you will see my sincerity to seeing a continuation of TOS in movie version.
And I hope there are no lingering bad feelings.
I will try my darndest to respect all peoples' views towards Galactica.
Thanks,
KR (aka Jim)

P.S. We've now surpassed the $1500 mark!

Koenig

I appreciate the strong and positive role that you have played on behalf of both Galactica fanbases. There are a lot of wonderful things going on that all fans can take take heart in, and I for one am proud to be part of it, both as a longtime fan, and a contributor.

As for hard feelings, I personlly hold none. I once again offer my apologies for any difficulties we've had in the past. I am optimistic for what the future holds for both Galactica and this fanbase, and look forward in all of us sharing that.

Once again, you have my salute.

(Anybody who bought the 4-CD set of Stu Phillips IMHO counts as a genuine, hard-core fan of the original Galactica series!!!)

Wow...I'm shocked, happy, and waiting for the other shoe to drop. I really don't know what to think? It's nice RDM took the time and was interested enough to do this, and I don't mean to sound like an ingrate here, but I'm currious as to why now?

I mean...he's got what he wanted without much consideration of TOS. He probably knows that there is little chance that the "Movie" version will ever be made now, and so, while it's a nice gesture on his part, it doesn't change any reality of where TOS/BSG stands currently.

I don't want to sound like this is an attack on RDM, or anything, because I salute the effort to heal some wounds, but in all honesty, in my humble opinion, there was a lot more room for consideration from RDM during the conceptual formatting of BSG03 to include more TOS. That would have been an even stronger and more appreciated gesture on his part, but I still thank him for taking an interest in how many of the TOS fans feel, and for helping from his "wallet" which also speaks volumes. I doubt is was generated from any guilt that might be associated with what was done with BSG03. I think it was genuine, and I appreciate that.

Cheers!

Count Iblis, I think that it's best that we don't question his motives any more than those of the the other folks who have contributed to and/or endorsed the CFF effort.

The fact of the matter is that the CFF is building bridges in the fandom, and that can't be anything but good. I figured in the beginning that the scores of TOS fans would contribute, and that we'd place the ads while the mini fans sat over at Media Blvd. with their arms folded, rolling their eyes saying "there they go again!" But that's not the case. Mini fans have gotten behind this, and contributed. galactica2003.net has gotten behind this, and its leadership has contributed.

This makes our message more powerful than I could ever have hoped for. Now the message we send to Hollywood isn't just about the same TOS fans who have been screaming for 25-years, it's now about the SciFi Channel's target demo, too. It's about how lucrative the Galactica brand is RIGHT NOW.

Ron Moore's contribution and endorsement help make it possible to send that message of unity (which I have done in the form of a press release), and I, for one, am very grateful to him for it.

CT,

Thanks for posting this. To me, seeing the mini-series fans jump on board is not a complete surprise. Many of them stated how much they enjoyed TOS and the effort of CFF is giving them a chance to show that their words were and are, indeed, true.

We ARE building bridges, my friend.

My personal thanks and appreciation to ALL who have contributed to the Colonial Fan Force.

I didn't mean to come off as being "Harsh" or "ungreatful" that RDM made this fantastic gesture. It's always a boon when someone with his background and production savy make an endorsement like this.

I guess my view is more of "Caution", and not to get overly excited about it yet. I want to see how BSG03 does as it stands now, and I hope if it has success it will be even a stronger message at that point to Hollywood that there is "Money" potential and marketability in BSG.

You guys can come down on me hard if you want too here. I will understand if you do. In the back of my mind I still wonder if BSG03 does have that kind of success, and Hollywood should say OK, let's do a feature film, will RDM step in and try to take over that project to do his own thing yet once again?

I'm not trying to sound uncharitable here, I'm just trying to consider all possible scenarios. There is no guarantee that if BSG03 succeeds to the point of being considered for a theatrical release it's going to include any of the other "Team" or their concepts. The studios could still side step TOS ideas all together and opt to make the film based on BSG03 alone.

Gosh....I hate to sound like the eternal pesimist here. Somebody give me a swift kick, with very hard tip pointy shoes!

My glass is half full.....Really!

Sincerely, Iblis

I won't come down hard on you Count Iblis!

I waited a few days to reply on this thread because I wanted to see how people took Ron Moore's actions. I am very happy to see that Ron Moore and many mini-fans are supporting the efforts of the Colonial Fan Force.

I think a lot of TOS only fans forget that the vast majority of minifans are TOS fans also.

I think your concerns regarding the new mini universe are valid. Despite all our efforts this is a business. If the Colonial Fan Force gets paid ads in things like Variety it will help get ALL versions of Battlestar Galactica publicity. If this occurs while Moore's version is on the air it will help the SCIFI show.

Like you I think whether the SCIFI version succeeds or fails will decide what kind of Continuation we get (or don't get) . If it succeeds we will only see the Moore universe for the forseeable future. If Moore's version fails although I hope we get a TOS continuation I think realistically the franchise is pretty much over on television or at the movie theatre.

I support the efforts of the Colonial Fan Force and am glad people are coming on board. Unfortunately my support for any television show will have to stay verbal not financial while I continue to have a JOINT checking account.

I do question whether Colonial Fan Force should wait and see how things go with Moore and his series before they buy the ads. They may just end up helping the mini universe. If the mini universe fails some ads after the fact may be the spark that plants the seed of doubt in Hollywood that Galactica is not really dead.
