Default This was odd....I never heard of it

I was talking with someone I never met before at the local video store.

We were talking about star wars and Matrix. And I eventually asked if he was going to watch the new mini.

He had never heard of it!!!!

That must be someone who works at Universal Studios lisencing- the same folks who, when I reminded them that the mini was a new propery, said "That's not ours." *pause* "Is it?"

Pop culture has no history. For many people today, if it happened before they were born, it didn't happen. I have known people who refuse to watch a movie if it is in black and white! My neice was watching the original Star Wars and said it looked fake. She is used to to wall to wall CGI. It's sad that younger people can't value the past. I guess I am a throw-back. I was born in 1966 but I enjoy movie serials, 1950s Sci Fi shows, Silent movies, Pulps from the 30s and 40s, comic books and strips from the golden age and many more great examples of pop culture. Each is a rewarding experiance in their own right. I also like to look at science fiction from before my time as a way to appreciate the history of my favorite genre of fiction. I guess video games and quick editing have ruined the attention spans of the young forever.

Bijou, you are so very right. I work as a teacher and this year's kids won't acknowledge last year's idols, let alone like them. A movie is old to them the moment it is on DVD. "Artists" that cover 80's songs are regarded as the real thing.

Default Me too

I was born in 1966 too and I love a lot of old movies - being slightly romantic at heart. I can see the value in the things of the past.

Yeah, these young "whipper-snappers" wouldn't know a good movie if it came up and bit 'em.
