4. Action Alerts: For All Battlestar Galactica Fans

Post Office Mail the Universal Entertainment Group

PRESS RELEASE: "BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (4-hour miniseries) - SCI FI re-imagines the groundbreaking and beloved series in which 'a rag, tag fugitive fleet' of the last remnants of mankind searches for its true home. Fleeing the aliens responsible for the slaughter of their homeworld, the Battlestar Galactica survivors must meet a whole new set of challenges. This intriguing twist on a classic will be written by writer Ronald D. Moore (Roswell, Mission Impossible II) with Breck Eisner (Steven Spielberg's Taken; The Invisible Man) attached to direct. Distributed by USA Cable Entertainment, the Project will be executive produced by David Eick (American Gothic, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Spy Game)." The new miniseries is a re-imagining, and not a continuation, of the original Battlestar Galactica series, and may not include the original cast, characters, and themes! Send a post office mail to the Universal Entertainment Group! For more information, visit our Battlestar Galactica revival information page.

Sign the four primary Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The four primary Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The four petitions listed here are endorsed by BattlestarGalactica.com. Petition #1 is the Battlestar Galactica Revival Petition to signal the sincere hopes that original cast members (and their characters) be considered for regular roles in the new Battlestar Galactica pilot/ongoing series. Petition #2 is the Battlestar Galactica DVD Petition to urge Vivendi Universal and Studios USA to seriously consider the release of ALL episodes of the original Battlestar Galactica television series on DVD/VHS formats. Petition #3 is the Battlestar Galactica New Series Petition aimed directly at the current Sci-Fi Channel happenings and utilizes stronger wording. Petition #4 is the Battlestar Galactica Fight for Survival Petition to support the new Battlestar Galactica production only if it is done right with direct linage of the original series and includes core members of the original cast in their original roles and includes the original Galactica ship. These are four petitions that are endorsed by BattlestarGalactica.com and BattlestarPegasus.com. You can make a difference by signing the petitions yourself, and be sure to alert your family, friends, and fellow fans as well to visit BattlestarGalactica.com and sign the petitions!

Sign the three additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions

The three additional Battlestar Galactica Online Petitions are also available for you to sign and show your support for Battlestar Galactica. The Battlestar Galactica Richard Hatch Petition respectfully requests that Richard Hatch make his trailer, "Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming" available to be shown on the Internet. Richard Hatch -IS- listening! If you agree with the petition, then sign the petition to make your voice heard. The Battlestar Galactica Sci-Fi Management Petition requests a change in management at the Sci-Fi Channel. The petition urges the Sci-Fi Channel to focus more on sci-fi programming, including Battlestar Galactica, instead of broadcasting non sci-fi television shows, or axing sci-fi shows that have done well, such as Lexx and Farscape. Finally, the Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition is a humorous petition, but for a serious matter: Ron Moore's new Battlestar Galactica mini-series script for the Sci-Fi Channel calls for Starbuck to become a female! Starbuck, one of the original series' most popular characters, becomes Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the new mini-series, and "Starbuck" is merely her radio call sign. If you want Starbuck to remain a male and make your voice heard, be sure to sign the Battlestar Galactica Save Starbuck Petition. You can make a difference, so be sure to sign the three additional petitions, after you sign the four primary petitions!

SyFyPortal.com has published a brand-new article that lists the site's "Top Newsmakers Of 2002". The article mentions that: "It was a big year for science fiction, filled with hits and misses all over the place. SyFy Portal has compiled its list of the top newsmakers of 2002. They include actors, writers, producers and even creators." Included in the new article is a mention of the new 'Battlestar Galactica' mini-series: "3. Ronald D. Moore -- Oh yeah, the former executive producer of 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' wasn't going to go away quietly, which is great for many fans. After spending a considerable amount of time on the failed series 'Roswell,' Moore took on a new project -- replacing Bryan Singer as the man in charge of re-imagining 'Battlestar Galactica' for the small screen. Fans will find out in 2003 just how well Moore did as a fan of the 1970s television series." For the complete article, check out the following link at SyFy Portal.

Just heard from the Larsons...

New announcement from Michael Faries of BattlestarGalactica.com: "Just heard from the Larsons... Too cool... I've been given a copy of what the second season of Battlestar Galactica might have been. While there are scripts for the second season (of which I have some paper copies, and John Dorsey's 'Sheba's Galaxy' site has reviews), this is a full outline of characters, revisions, plot summaries and other goodies which might have comprised a second season for Battlestar Galactica. My sincerest thanks to the Larsons. Wow. Truly WOW. It's interesting to note that a couple of tangents which were planned for the unfilmed second season were present within Tom DeSanto's production, like Starbuck becoming second in command. ;) Yes, you heard me right: Starbuck was promoted to Tigh's position. (Tigh isn't seen, nor explained away. And Apollo has reasons for not assuming the position.) I'm behind on updates for various reasons. I will endeavor to summarize some of the information for the web sites in the next couple of weeks." More detailed information will be posted at BattlestarGalactica.com and BattlestarPegasus.com when the report is completed.

Battlestar Galactica RTS Game Project

New announcement posted at the BattlestarNewYork.com message board by Edwin Martens: "I started an open source project, a freeware Battlestar Galactica strategy game. Check out the very first graphics/AI demo at the following link. The graphics are from my old RTS project which was lost due to a hard disk crash, but I restarted the project and I will start all over again. I would like to have some help, so if anyone wants to help please do so. Since it's open source, anyone is free to obtain/improve my code, and of course I need artists, sprite/pixel editors, and/or 3D modelers (top view shots can be used as sprites), music, sounds, etc. As far as I know no one ever made a real Battlestar Galactica strategy game which is a shame. Also, you need DirectX hardware acceleration to run this since it's not optimized yet." If you are interested in helping Edwin Martens with the freeware Battlestar Galactica strategy game project, be sure to contact him at the following e-mail address and download the demo at his web site.

BattlestarGalactica.com Will Review Ron Moore's Mini-Series Script

Here's an amazing turn of events just announced by Michael Faries at BattlestarGalactica.com: "A source has provided me with a copy of the script. I will be spending this weekend reading/re-reading and reviewing it. Please do NOT ask me for individual items within the script; one of the conditions for obtaining it was a general review where I will provide: - The Pros - The Cons - My personal opinions (summary). Hopefully I'll have the review online by the middle of next week. It is a four hour story, spread over two nights. And, yes, the first filmjerk.com article was totally accurate. And I should mention: Starbuck isn't the only male-to-female change. And there are a couple of other original series characters appearing who weren't mentioned in the filmjerk.com casting sheet info. Are the characters identical to the original series? That depends. This is a remake, after all. Some similarities, some differences. I should point out, too: There are a LOT (repeat: a LOT) of new characters which the filmjerk.com article didn't cover. I'm not sure why casting information for these characters wasn't present, but the new BG universe has a lot more new faces than old ones, imho. Please PLEASE be patient while I work on my review. And again, I cannot leak anything in the meantime. I must provide the review as outlined above. That's just the way it has to be."

Online Protest -- Wednesday Dec. 11th

New announcement from T. Shawn Hardy of Radio Galactica and the Battlestar Fan Force! "Do you wish that we could all meet in front of Universal for a friendly protest to the new Ronald D. Moore project? Well this Wednesday we are going to have one right at the Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica BBoard. It will look something like the post-athon but the difference is that we will be here for a reason and the reason is to make our voices heard as the fan base of Battlestar Galactica and show them our dismay over the latest news. It will be just like walking around with picket signs but the titles on the signs will be the titles of our posts. I understand that many of you are upset but like I said, this is a friendly protest that will show them once again that we are not happy with the latest developments on Ron's Galactica project. I will see you all then. OWD." Be sure to visit the Sci-Fi Channel BBoard tomorrow and participate!

NEW! Sign the Petition to Save Starbuck's Genitalia

Have you heard the official (confirmed) treatment of Ronald D. Moore's Battlestar Galactica mini-series script for the Sci-Fi Channel? 1) After decades of peace with the Cylons (robots BUILT BY HUMANS but with enough intelligence to turn against their designers), the HUMANS OF KOBOL are virtually annihilated in a sneak attack. With a small remnant of humanity surviving aboard the last remaining Battlestar, Commander Adama and President Laura Roslin opt to make a run for it in the Galactica, hoping to reach the humans' legendary homeworld of Earth, while pursued through space by the fanatical, now HUMANOID CYLONS... 2) LEE "APOLLO" ADAMA. A man with a LONG-SIMMERING BITTERNESS against his famous and respected father [COMMANDER ADAMA!], LEE believes that his brother Zak was forced into military service by their father, and that Zak's death was due to Commander Adama's demands upon his son. BARELY CIVIL TO HIS FATHER when they meet formally, LEE regards VISITS TO THE GALACTICA as INCIDENTS TO BE ENDURED. ["APOLLO" is only Lee Adama's RADIO CALL-SIGN!] 3) KARA "STARBUCK" THRACE, in ***HER*** late 20s to early 30s, is a loner, which makes HER an oddity among the Galactica's tight-knit crew of pilots. SHE'S tough and BALLSY with a certain worldliness. SHE'S as undisciplined and rebellious out of the cockpit as SHE is calculating and precise in it. HER mouth has definitely held back HER career. Not fond of COLONEL PAUL TIGH, the ship's Executive Officer, SHE enjoys both taunting him and beating him at cards. A take-charge woman who RUNS AROUND THE SHIP in a JOGGING BRA AND SHORTS, who might be attracted to LEE ADAMA. 4) GAIUS BALTAR is a literal genius. Elegantly dressed and aesthetically handsome, with the affected humility of the truly arrogant, BALTAR is a COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY DESIGNER who has won three Magnate Prizes. Sign the Petition to Save Starbuck's Genitalia, and speak out against this ABOMINABLE and RIDICULOUS script for a "Battlestar Galactica" mini-series on the Sci-Fi Channel!

For Better *and* For Worse?

Well, if the first announcement from FilmJerk.com was a bomb dropped on the Battlestar Galactica universe, the second announcement at least has some news for the better. Mister X at FilmJerk.com has stepped forward with an apparent "Mission Statement" from Ron D. Moore for the mini-series. The "Mission Statement" does contain at least some better news, following the notorious recent announcement that mentioned a script where Starbuck is a female, Apollo's name is "Lee", and Lee is bitter towards Commander Adama. There's no character breakdown in the second announcement, though special effects for the mini-series is discussed. Check out the following link at FilmJerk.com for the reported "Mission Statement" and commentary from the editor of that site.

Ron D. Moore Replies!

Well, the recent announcement of Ron D. Moore's script drew harsh comment over at the Sci-Fi BBoard for 5 days straight, and the storm hasn't cleared yet. The announcement drew titular comments such as: "damned freak", "butcher", "sickly schoolmarm", "Burden To Society", "Bizarro", "Disease of the week", "Cursed By God!", "Baby", "The Aids Virus Of Television", and even a death threat, as well as "HE HE HE HE HE HA HA HA HA HA" and "HAAAA!!! HAAAA!!!". And these are just the titles of some of the notes, I left out the scathing remarks and comments that made up the actual text of these notes. Well, look what the cat dragged in (or look what the cat barfed up, depending on your take on the script).

25th Year Anniversary is back ontrack

Finally, some good news after an otherwise abominable day for Battlestar Galactica. This just in from Michael Faries of BattlestarGalactica.com: "25th Year Anniversary is back ontrack. I won't have specifics to share yet, but we're back on track for an event which celebrates 25 years of Battlestar Galactica. I'm not calling it the '25th Yahren' in my notes/e-mails, rather '25th Year.' Official news will come from the co-ordinator/event manager. I'll probably relay from my end/provide a conduit. I cannot divulge details at this time, but I would encourage people (of their own free will) to start saving funds so they can attend. It may kick MAJOR arse if it comes together as it appears it will. Will there be a web site? Possibly. I don't know yet if it'll piggy-back off of BG.com or be a separate entity. Please know: I cannot answer specific questions at this time. IF you have projects which you wish to debut/showcase at the 25th, it would be a good idea to contact me OFFLINE, via webmaster@battlestargalactica.com, so I can apprise the planners. I plan to have three entries of my own, plus I know of others who are planning to attend with some incredible projects of their own." Many thanks to Michael Faries for posting this report at the Battlestar Galactica Club Forums.

Battlestar Galactica report is true and mini-series is green lit for production

BattlestarGalactica.com today confirmed that the report at FilmJerk.com is "the most accurate account of Ronald D. Moore's work" to date, and that the Sci-Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica mini-series has been green lit for production. BattlestarGalactica.com reports that: "It's official: Ronald D. Moore's Battlestar Galactica has been green lit for production. (4.Dec.02) In speaking with BattlestarGalactica.com and BattlestarPegasus.com, Ronald D. Moore officially confirmed that his Battlestar Galactica production has been green lit for full production. According to Moore, 'Michael Rymer ('Queen of the Damned,' 'Haunted' pilot) has been confirmed as the director.' FilmJerk.com has confirmed numerous plot and character details. In response, Moore comments, 'Bear in mind that this jumble of story elements and descriptions is not the same thing as a true synopsis and doesn't really do justice to what we're trying to do.' We will bring you additional, official information as it becomes available."
