Default My BSG Inspired AgroShip

Howdy Ya'll.

So, I'm a physical modeler, not being terribly computer savvy like a lot of you other folks. I've been doing Star Trek modeling for quite a while now. However, I've been wanting to do some BSG ships, but my only real source for some additional ships to fill out my own RagTag Fugitive Fleet is to do some scratchbuild and kitbash modeling.

I've had an idea for a BSG AgroShip bouncing around in my head for some time now and finally made myself start on that project this a couple of weeks back. It's been an on-again, off-again kind of deal. I built the main hull in two days, adding some pieces/parts from kits that are in my spares box. I made a lot of progress - then stalled for a while 'cause I needed a Dremel tool to make the bottoms of the agropods concave. Well, I finally got one and now they're concave. These last week and a half I've made some additional progress, to include adding new engines and painting the "bottom" of the agropods.

Anyhow, here you go: Kitbashed BSG AgroShip. While not exactly my best work, far from my worst. My main issue has to do with my usual symmetry problems. Oh, well. There's always the next one to get it that much more right.

Another update in-works at this time. Had a bit of a problem w/the dome tops as it's been a very, very long time since I've put clear parts on a model. I used CA and did so sparingly in hopes that it wouldn't negatively effect the dome. However, it did - fogged it up rather badly! Got some advice from some friends and so will be popping the top on that one and cleaning it up, then dipping it and the others in Future Floor wax to help it resist the fogging.

So, whattaya think?

Thumbs up Cool!

That looks really good! I've always wondered what the rest of the fleet looked like. In the show most of them just look like specks. I wonder what they used when they did the filming. I also wonder sometimes what would be going on in all those other ships. Since most people don't know what the other ships looked like, it's a good opportunity to use your imagination when creating them rather than worrying about every angle and detail having to be perfect.

WC,

I think he has developed a Agroship based on The New Series. The Original Series Agroships were seen throughout the show, and were the same models as used on the film 'Silent Running'

But you're right, a lot of the 220 ships in the fleet were virtually unseen....

Well, yes and no on the TOS/TNS origins of my agroship. We saw three of the "Valley Forge-Type" agroships in "The Magnificent Warriors", sure. However, two of those three were destroyed. A later "throwaway" line in one of the episodes - I forget which for sure, but think it was "The War of The Gods, Part Two" - that talks about "AgroShip 9". So, there's no reason to beleive that there were only three, as well as no need to think that they were all the same "Valley Forge-Type" ships.

So, my ship is basically intended to be based upon either TNS or TOS. A lot of the TOS designs carried over to TNS, after all. Lots of those smaller ships we never get good closeups on are the same as what we see in several scenes of TOS.

I've seen this model of his first hand yesterday, and he needs to let me cast it. Hint, hint.

I'll need to work on a new one, Michael. I really don't think this one is worthy of being kitted. Too many symmetry issues. Yet another reason that having access to a laser cutter is a good thing! Or at least someone with really good hand/eye coordination who can cut shapes exactly the same - an ability that escapes me at present....

BTW, I've got a model kit for the Valley Forge from the movie Silent Running that will be added to my fleet as one of the AgroShips seen in "The Magnificent Warriors". Yet another homage to TOS for my RTF.

Look forward to seeing further refinements!!

A suggestion for a name for this class of ship: Elysian or Elysia
greek pickup on the bountiful fields of the afterlife.

Cheers,
Lara

Thanks for those suggestions. I appreciate it!

I hadn't got as far in to thinking of a class name so much as a name for the ship I'm building. I was originally thinking I'd go with Dionysis or... dang it. I'm at work and forget what the other name I'd come up with was....

Anyhow, I definitely like the Elysia suggestion, tho. Thanks much, ma'am!

My pleasure!!

Some of us have the words, some of us create the effex, some of us straighten out the plot lines, some critique, some consume... out of it we all get more cool ideas to play with.. and the cycle goes on.

Cheers,
Lara
