"You're either in or you're out"
That's a quote from Ocean's 11.
This is a thread for those who truly support a continuation of the original Battlestar Galactica 1978-79.
Please give me your thoughts on why you liked the original?
Where you would like the story to go after 25 years?
What new characters you would like to see?
Who would you like to see script, produce, direct, do the FX etc?
Have you got any funny stories about being a fan?
* PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A THREAD FOR ALL THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR A CONTINUATION!
Fence sitters – those who will make their minds up when Moore's version airs, start your own thread.
Regards,
Peter

I think I take offense to this.
I would love a continuation but we are not getting one, so what is wrong with giving this show a chance? If you are not prejudice then get out? That is rather harsh don't you think? I thought this was supposed to be a kinder gentler place than the scifi board.

I'm sorry Artemis, you're right we aren't getting the original show, and people have every right to give it a chance.
Maybe I'm tilting at windmills, but I will do everything in my power to reverse that decision to go with a remake.
I just wanted to start a thread which solely discusses the original show, just as people can start a thread to solely discuss the remake.
Respectfully,
Peter

I'm just a bit quick to snap at prejudice, it is such an ugly trait. I'm sure you didn't mean it to sound that way.

Since I'm Such A Fan of Irony
I'll just point out that you got exactly what you didn't want, Peter. You requested that only fans who liked the original show post in this thread, so that the thread wouldn't get off target and become another lawyerly back-and-forth. Instead, you find yourself in a debate over prejudice.
BTW: I personally found nothing in the least bit offensive in your request. You weren't suggesting that anyone be removed from this board in general, you just wanted to avoid the kind of debate that just came looking for you.

I'm not trying to start anything here but the topic as stated came off that way for someone who has been at the wrong end of prejudice too many times. I have fought for a continuation but I also have an open mind. Hey I even tried to get a petition started in 1979 to bring it back.
I liked the original because I could feel connected with these people since they seemed to have the same mythology we have, or perhaps they created our mythology, you didn't really know if it was taking place now or in our past or future.
I would definitely like to see more strong female characters. Sheba was good but she seemed to need a man to make her complete, first her father, then Apollo, then Iblis and back to Apollo. Athena had a lot of promise till they turned her into a school teacher and then she vanished. Of course the originals need to be back especially Apollo, my favorite, and possibly Adama only in holographic memories, who could replace Lorne Greene? I would either want the story to pick up after "The Hand of God" or many yarens later.
I don't know enough script writers, fx people or directors to have an opinion on that.
That's my 2 cubits about it, is this original fan and "fence sitter" still unwelcome?

Artemis you are, and always will be welcome.
I liked your thoughts about the female characters, I do think Sheba and Apollo should be married, because on Galactica you've either got the love interest for that episode or your spouse has sadly passed on.
A proper family unit with maybe some extra kids (in the Maximum Press comic book series Apollo and Sheba had a boy called Cain). would be a new permatation.
Athena could have been a great character, and I'd still like to see her in the mix, obviously Maren would not be playing her, but does anyone have any casting suggestions.
Regarding the FX, I vote for our guys on this board.
That's all for now,
Peter

I did think of a good writer- J. Michael Stratczynski. I doubt he would ever do it.

I've been thinking about who to replace Maren as I watch TV: And this would be for a continuation 20-25 yrs. after the Hand of God: How about the actress that plays Sydney's mom on Alias? (Obviously I'm going for a stronger female role too, for all the females, not just Athena). I would like to see Apollo and Sheba married; long enough ago that Boxey/Troy might have had a kid sibling or 2; and that they have gotten closer over the yahrens. Apollo in command of the Galactica, though I like the idea of him still flying at times, battles especially. I'd like to see the council of 12 be a little more "with it" as far as understanding their situation and working with the military, focusing less on whining. They've lived 25 yrs on the run, mostly under martial law, always struggling to survive: that will have changed even the civilians approach to things.

Peter, I am for continuation but not against the Ron Moore's Galactica. Does that mean I cannot be a part of it?
